Re: Latest Commission

Both correct, Below is a photo of 'the real thing' at the Biggin Hill airshow, June 2007.

This aircraft TA805 is based at Biggin Hill Kent and is the only airworthy Spitfire based in this famous 'Battle of Britain County'

The model depicts TA805 as she is today and the motiff/Spirit of Kent artwork is a contempory take on the many Spitfires bought and donated by the people of Kent during World War 2.

Re: Latest Commission

Admin, located that one as well as this. Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I P9554 SH-K flown by Pilot Officer James Joseph 'Orange' O'Meara. NO. 64 Sqn. Kenley, August 1940 during the Battle of Britain. Authenticity for the Gemini is very much in doubt.

But are those authentic markings? I know of many warbirds flying the air show circuit that are not correct. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that one is correct or not, I'm just trying to figure it out. I;ve just found a lot of data on the following, but not the other.

Supermarine Spitfire F Vll MD120 NX-O 'Spirit of Kent'

Re: Latest Commission

Right Ok....

TA805's 'Spirit of Kent' nose art is not based on a World War 2 aircraft.

Her codes FX-M and all other markings are genuine and authentic to TA805.

In 2007 she was moved from Duxford by her owner and is now based at Biggin Hill in KENT.

The county of Kent raised more money than any other county in the UK towards the 'Spitfire Funds' at the time The county alone had purchased an entire Squadron. Many aircraft carried 'Spirit of Kent' in one form or another, some had the 'Invicta' horse logo which is today the symbol of Kent. (See my Avatar)
Many Aircraft were named after towns in Kent, Bromley, Whistable, Maidstone etc.

The owner of todays 'Kent Spitfire' wanted to pay tribute to this and thus the 'Spirit of Kent' and Invicta logo were applied. This is a modern take on the many different presentation Spitfires. The county's very own Spitfire. Whenever possible the owner conducts flypasts at memorials, museums, events and schools to help ensure that the Spitfire and everything it represents stays fresh in the mind of the younger generations

If you want an authentic World War 2 scheme then this is not a model for you. If you want a highly accurate representation of an aeroplane which displays on the UK airshow circuit then 'The Kent Spitfire' is one for you.

I hope this clears up any uncertainty.

Models go on sale soon and proceeds we help fund the Kent Spitfire, with many thanks to our friends at Gemini Aces...

Re: Latest Commission

Charley,

Can you post shipping rates to us in the states on this forum please. I saw the RRP of £25.99 I think.

Also, a link to the website where ordering can be done. I like it quite a bit but trying to decide if worth £35 to me or so which over here buys nearly 3 regular Gemini Aces. Damn exchange rate anyway.

Thanks

Re: Latest Commission

Yea, I'd like to find out more about this one too. Since it's an exclusive, you may post a link to where members can go to purchase this model.

Thumbs up Re: Latest Commission

I had a chat with Charley in the week and it turns out that this Spitfire also served with the SAAF. In fact it was recovered from a South African scrapyard. It may well be the same aircraft displayed on a plith in the area my Dad worked when I was a child. I'm getting one!
