A-1 Skyraider - Finally

Maybe I missed this but the latest Flying Tigers newsletter notes that Gemini Aces will be producing a Skyraider mould! I don't buy many post-WWII models due to space issues but I have been waiting for this one for a long time and Gemini Aces will be a great one to produce it.

Re: A-1 Skyraider - Finally

I saw that in my newsletter as well.
Skyraider is going to be great to have for the 1:72nd collectors.
I like the looks of that WWI S.E.5 too.

"Fighter Pukes make movies, bomber pilots make history". What a great flick. Did you all know that the even in Flight of the Intruder was a real event? The characters are all created by the author who was a A-6 pilot I believe.

He was an A-6 pilot, but as far as I know he never claimed his book was based on an actual event. Of couse, a lot of stuff happened in Vietnam and I'm sure something similar could have happened...

I truly loved the book, but didn't particularly care for the movie. Maybe I shouldn't have read the book first.

Re: A-1 Skyraider - Finally

I don't think that the whole movie was based on a true story, just the part of the A-6 crew going "downtown". The movie was cool, but I think in certain ways they felt the need to try and be like Top Gun a little.

Maybe I need to see it again. I haven't seen it in many, many years and maybe I'd like the movie more now. If I remember well, one thing I wasn't impressed with were the flying/bombing special effects. After seeing the real flying in Top Gun (and Final Countdown), I felt I was let down by Flight of the Intruder.

But to me the book was a masterpiece, I was very moved by it. I truly recommend it even if you have seen the movie. There is so much more in the book...

Re: A-1 Skyraider - Finally

I wouldn't be too critical of the movie "Flight of the Intruder". It was a good popcorn film for what it's worth, and it was pure joy just to see those A-6s simply
flying! I was visiting a friend at Subic Base in the Philippines at the time when the movie was being filmed over there. What I would give to just to be an
'extra' in it!
