Re: USAAF Spit and Desert Me 109

Got mine last night. When taking the 109 out of the box I managed to remove the white wing tip .

No prob's I thought easy to fix as it detached at the join complete. Super glue and 5 min's later it's back on, but I now have a nice glue mark on the wing

Timbo, the wing tip shouldn't have come off that easily . Let's hope that this isn't an indication of the future QC direction of GA ...

My feeling is GA use the glue very sparingly, sometimes a little to sparingly.

I have had several 109's with detached tail planes when taking out of the box, and the aerial for Berlin Express came right off when I got it - (No loss there though )

Just when I think it's safe to get more GA's I hear more reports of bad QC. I'm digging in. I'm holding off on getting any more. Aside from another two on order that is.

Re: USAAF Spit and Desert Me 109

My Gemini planes have been fine with no problems.
Maybe you could put a little blame of a broken plane by the shipping hands.
I have a friend who works for a shipping company (not going to name which one ) But they just throw the boxes on the rollers and then the get thrown again into the truck and what's worse somtimes it can get over crowded in the truck and it will get crushed.....
When he told me that i felt like
He says he does not do it because he's a collector like we are but he has seen the others do it and knows it goes around in all the shipping areas.
Between the glue and the shipping part...maybe that why they fall apart.

Re: USAAF Spit and Desert Me 109

Hey ZS, I had three GA's arrive this morning from The Flying Mule. Ding hao, the Neuman Bf 109 and the Ohr Spitfire. I can't fault them in the slightest. Don't let the misfoortunes of a few put you off enjoying these superb models. I think QC problems with all the manufacturers, and IMO GA have no more than anyone else (and probably less than some!).

I know I'm taking this thread way off topic (But since I started this thread, can't I do that??? )

Just before Christmas I won a Corgi Kepford Corsair on Ebay. It was shipped USPS in a Priority mail box. The seller/semder had "fragile" stamped on the front of the box. Box arrived with damage that was obviously made by a fist - right through the "fragile" stamp. (Package was also insured and - if I remember right - stamped "insured" ) It was as if the "fragile" stamp was a target for the postal worker's fist. I'd also gues that because it was "insured" the person thought it wasn't going to cost anyone, anything - except the insurance company.

Luckily - to my utter disbelief - the model/corgi box were not damaged. Should have bought a lottery ticket that day - huh.

Sorry ZS - I'm going to call you on this.

I agree completely with Harry, GA are the one company I see changing processes quickly to try and satisfy the customer. (Note the original P51 aerial and all pilots, and the fact that apparently the rumor is that they rejected the entire batch of original desert 109's)

None of the problems I have had have been with fit or finish, and generally these have been exceptional. I've had a few bits fall off some of the 109's, and this should not have happened (the last one could have been my fault in trying to get it out of the packaging), but I would rather have planes do this than come pre-smeared with glue stains because they have used too-much (I had to send my first Corgi Galland 109 back due to this, and the 2nd has some small glue marks).

Re: USAAF Spit and Desert Me 109

I guess I am fortunate in the fact that I can drive to my local diecast dealer and he lets me pick thru the planes to get the one I want.. In saying this though, I have looked at many, many Gemini planes and other than just a few minut problems, none have had any glaring QC problems..

Re: USAAF Spit and Desert Me 109

I've six Gemini birds with narry an issue amongst them -- from a pure craftmanship perspective they rival anything else I have in 1:72, including the Pooch..

Every once in a while I guess lemon is unavoidable. That said, I'm very impressed with how quickly Gemini has addressed the mold issues -- you can really see them improve with each wave.

Re: USAAF Spit and Desert Me 109

DADoser, my local Post Office "official" warned me against placing FRAGILE stamps/marks, etc., on any package I want to arrive safely. He told me such marks only serve as a target for the postal workers in the back.

I have noticed that packages I receive that are marked with FRAGILE appear to suffer a lot more abuse than packages that arrive without. Fills you with confidence doesn't it?
