Re: Which Geminis to buy?

Yeah I just picked up Frankie Last night. Really like it. Though I like Ding Hao because of the story behind the plane/pilot.

Re: Which Geminis to buy?

IMHO, you can't go wrong with Berlin Express and Ferocious Frankie, or do like me and buy all of them! I like Berlin Express because of the bubble canopy (vs the birdcage on the other B's) and Ferocious Frankie because of the bare nekked metal!

Re: Which Geminis to buy?

This a SWAG, but since two of my grandparents were born in Wales, I'd say that's the red dragon you see on the Wales Ensign. I know the flag, since I fly it from my summer cottage front porch. Odds are the pilot is of Welsh heritage.

Yes I would say that's a Dragon, but being a Mustang it could be a winged horse?? You can see the silhouette of the plane behind the animal.

Ooops!

Re: Which Geminis to buy?

OK...I think I know which planes to get, but I can't bring myself to purchase three Mustangs, especially three OD mustangs. SO, I've decided on two Mustangs and one "other." The "other" seems to be the hard part. I've always wanted Berlin Express so that's number 1. I think number 2 is going to be Ding Hao, it's been a tight race between that one and Hun Hunter. Now, the hard part is number three. What do y'all think about the following Bf-109, is it fairly accurate, color-wise? For some reason, this scheme intrigues me but I don't want to pick it up if it isn't representative of the true plane. I figured I'd bow to the Luftwaffe experts around here...

This is the first Gemini I owned and it sits on the mantle, the place of honor in my home for top rated 1:72 aircraft. It's the pebble that started the Gemini landslide, so to speak. I'd go for another Bf-109, but I've already got 16 in the hanger so I figured I'd add a couple more 'Tangs.

Re: Which Geminis to buy?

This is the opposite (starboard) side of Berlin Express...

Gee, thanks!
Ok, I should have been more clear. Is it a dragon or something?

Seems like wings.....something. I've never been able to quite make it out.

According to the profile for the P-51C Berlin Express on Bud Anderson's website, it's a horse (a funky horse at that) in front of an aircraft silhouette:

Additional notes from Bill Overstreet:
Some history, my first P-51 was named SOUTHERN BELLE. It was damaged on an early mission and was replaced. By then we were going to Berlin regularly, so it was BERLIN EXPRESS. Only the express was slanted and no train or horse. The next one had both names slanted and the train added. When your Father returned to the States, I took his plane and this is the one that had the horse added. When I left, Bill Fricker took it and changed the name but kept the horse. All of my planes had red wheels and white sidewalls.
The idea of using the yellow and red like the nose markings is good but it didn't happen at that time. As I remember, the disc was white, the horse was brown, the plane in the painting was black. White edging was used on dark colors and black edging on light background. I don't remember any yellow or red on that painting. Are you familiar with AeroMaster Decals of Miami? They had decals of the name and locomotive and B6-O some years ago but nothing on the right side. The BERLIN EXPRESS was all slanted on some of my planes and EXPRESS only on some. Sure wish I had saved more pictures. Anyway, I hope this is of some help.

Re: Which Geminis to buy?

A HORSE? Are you kidding me? Bill, buddy, how many shots led to that splendid piece of noseart?

Thanks for taking the time to look that up though. Really. Maybe if I get it eventually I'll turn it and show the port side.
