Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

Have to say I'm a bit let down with BE having the wrong antenna once again.

Anyone know if the fuselage invasion stripes are correct in not wrapping over the top?

Thumbs down Re: Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

Am glad I didn't pre-order this one. Was really looking forward to it, liked the pre-pro shot of the model with the birdcage canopy. At least the antenna would have looked okay if they kept it that way.

Now Gemini have gone ahead and released the production model with a Malcolm hood instead and the wrong antenna to boot!!

Bugger!

Re: Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

I got my shipping confirmation for mine today and i'm looking forward to seeing it.
Base on the pictures i have seen of it.
I like the bubble canopy ok.... antenna nothing i can't fix
I'm really not sure about the invasion stripes wrapping all over the top.
I have seen many P-51B's and C's with the stripes.

Re: Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

I don't think we can expect Gemini to change the antenna location.. If you don't like it, just trim it off.. A whip antenna at 1/72 scale wouldn't be visible anyway..

Here are a couple of pics I found of Overstreets Mustang and as far as the invasion stripes, there is a Mustang in the background with only "half" stripes, so I would think Berlin Express is probably similarly painted..

My only real question is whether the Malcolm hood is accurate since the later pics of Overstreets B/C had a regular birdcage??

Re: Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

You are not the only one that is confused the Invasion stripes as shown on this model 324283 are the later version with the top bands removed as with Gemini's Bald Eagle, which was how most A/C were marked some time after D Day, but Bill Overstreet was flying 2103309 his second Berlin Express on and before D Day???? berlin-express-wrong-antenna-again-b6-o.jpg

Re: Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

On a hunch, I decided to see if Gemini used a standard decal reference and it would seem that they did.. The "Berlin Express" is exactly how Gemini did theirs (sans antenna)..
Now, I am not saying this is correct, but decals are usually pretty well researched..

Eagle Strike is a good on their research by the way.
That works for me.

Re: Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

I know that I'm likely to be in a small minority on this, but this is how I see it. Like the shade of OD, the Malcolm Hood was a field mod so to me it's purely a matter of aesthetics. Maybe it had it, maybe it didn't. No sweat either way.

I just wished that they would include both canopy types so that you could choose for yourself.

A most insightful comments there Admin! I agree with you but I wonder whether GA is listening. It would be great if we had the canopy option.
