Re: Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

Cuz, they're just keeping with diecast manufacturers' tradition of "Why do it right, when it's just as easy to do it wrong?"

If you step back and think about it , How would a modern Chinese guy know how to make an accurate WW11 Mustang?

Well how ? I bet nobody over there knows what a Mustang is . So they research but they still dont understand the feeling that goes with this plane.
So maybe we should be happy that it looks anything near the real thing.

It was just a thought that went through my mind, Its gone now , it got lonely and left.

God Bless America.

Re: Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

Jim,
Hey there.

You idea has much merit to it. Also keep in mind that the "average" buyer won't care, or even notice little things like the wrong antenna. (Few on this forum would fall under the "average buyer" catagory.) Therefore "ultra accuracy" (Of the kind often demaded by folks around here, myself included.) isn't the highest factor in determining what a manufacturer offers.

Case in point, when I "discovered" diecast I never even noticed that the swastika was missing from Dragons German aircraft. Several of my initial purchases (Over the course of 3-4 months.) were FW-190s and ME-109s and I was just THRILLED to have an accurate reprodcution of these birds. The swastika on the tail never even occured to me until I got on the old forum, heard the grumbling, and suddenly went, "Oh yeah, that is missing isn't it?"

As with everything else in diecast, if it bothers you that much (And there are plenty of things that get all of us individually worked up.) don't buy it.

Anything for a weird life.

Re: Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

Hey fellas,

I picked up one of these models at the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends airshow last month.
This is the first metal model that I have ever bought. It was the first that I thought looked good
enough to buy (I usually build plastic ones). I bought the spitfire too, which is comparable quality.

I had the opportunity to shake hands with Bill Overstreet and Bud Anderson, and I had them both
autograph the model. They were often paired up as wingmen and apparently both flew this aircraft.
When Bud talked about Mr. Overstreet, I could sense that he has a great deal of respect for the man.
I asked Bill Overstreet about chasing a 109 under the eiffel tower, and he confirmed that the story is true!

Anyways, I figured you guys would appreciate this.
Thanks for the tips on how to replace the antenna. I might give that a shot if I'm feeling brave.

Welcome to the forum IL2windhawk...
You started off on the right foot having that Gemini P-51B Mustang signed
by two great Aces.
Once you have one...You will want to get others because they are so nice to have around.
Enjoy your stay at the Model Hangar.

Welcome to the forum IL2windhawk...
I very much envy you for having your diecast signed by surviving legends. Thanks for sharing a picture of it!

Blimey, IL2W -- that's a nice first purchase! A real piece of history.

And welcome to the forum -- now that you're here, I'm sure the Mustang won't be your last diecast purchase!

Nrrrm! Whoosh! Rat-tat-tat!

That signed BE Mustang is really cool, I am sad I missed the show and a chance to rub elbows with some WWII aces..

Re: Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

VERY cool IL2... I was thinking about doing something similar but it seemed like too much hassle to lug aroung a model at GML on top of all my camera gear. Seeing this I'm kicking myself now!!!
