Re: Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

I know that I'm likely to be in a small minority on this, but this is how I see it. Like the shade of OD, the Malcolm Hood was a field mod so to me it's purely a matter of aesthetics. Maybe it had, maybe it didn't. No sweat either way.

I just wished that they would include both canopy types so that you could choose for yourself.

I agree Gavin. I would like to take the idea further and ask that the makers include weapons options as well for some models. I remember when I used to build plastic kits that many of them came with options to build different marks of the same aircraft. I think for the serious collector this would be a major plus in the diecast field.

God Bless America.

Re: Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

Bud Anderson was still flying his Malcolm Hooded P-51B s/n 43-24823 as late as August 1944. It was then transfered to Bill Overstreet who was flying a birdcage P-51B s/n 42-103309 up till then. I got this info from the book "To War with the Yoxford Boys". There are several photo's in the book showing 43-24823 as Old Crow and Berlin Express with a Malcolm hood.

The photo's also show that by the time Overstreet inherited it, the invasion stripes were removed from the top.

So is this Berlin Express #3??

Also looks like GA have made a snafu on the number 8+2 have been transposed to read 283 instead for 823 (check out the Mules pictures)

Re: Berlin Express - wrong antenna (again)

Given they amount of discussion and conflicting opinions regarding the accuracy of this model, I guess we could forgive Gemini if there are some inaccuracies with this scheme.

I for one am really looking forward to this one arriving. However, I've got it on the same pre-order as Draggins new P-51B "Nookie Bookie", so who knows how long I'll have to wait until that arrives :-/

Sweet Jesus this is gonna be my favorite Mustang until the "Late, Princess Elizabeth" arrives. I would admit to wanting the option of open or closed cockpits, and cockpit types. But this is a keeper. Now where is Old Crow?

I'm right here, in a cyberspace sort of way. Or were you talking about the plane?

I had a chance to see this bird today in person and all I can say is, unless your perception of inaccuracies has run amok, you will not be disappointed.

Best one yet, in my opinion. Nice job Gemini.

Gemini's Ding Hao! is great too. Berlin Express has a bit more color, which is nice, but has the incorrectly (or unfortunately) placed antenna, which I'm sorry to say I can't get past. That's my hang-up though and I wouldn't think less of anyone who has bought or will buy the model because of it.

The main thing that Ding Hao! has over BE is the back story. MoH winner trumps unconfirmed kill under the Eiffel Tower in my books.
