Fat pilots begone!

Okay, so I've had my GA Mustang, Spit and 109 for about a month now (with the next wave on the way). And I've come to the conclusion that those pudgy pilots detract too much from the great overall look of the planes themselves.

Planenuts had posted previously on his technique for removing the canopies (thanks PN!), I'd like to know what adhesive I should use to re-attach the canopies once I've given the pilots their marching orders. I know that using plastic cement or superglue would cause hazing/clouding of the clear plastic due to the fumes released when it dries. I'd like to avoid this, any help would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

Re: Fat pilots begone!

White glue will work just fine, Min. It's plenty strong enough to hold the canopy and will not haze it. It will fill in any gaps and any excess can be wiped away.

Re: Fat pilots begone!

the canopy should clip on by itself, no glue required, well thaz the case with my 109s.

Re: Fat pilots begone!

I did not have to use any glue on my 2nd Mustang either.
It just snaped back in.
I did how ever take the pilot out and replaced him with another pilot from a model kit and painted him up to look like it should.
Much better now

Re: Fat pilots begone!

It cracks me up that anyone noticed this. I had to stare at the distorted clear plastic canopy for several moments to be able to decide if he was over sized or not.

"To each his own" I guess.

Re: Fat pilots begone!

I am impressed with GA's responsiveness to correcting their line so far (for example, correcting the P-51B aerial). I have great hopes that their pilots will soon be put on a carefully proportioned high protein diet and a regimen of exercise.

Now that is a good one.

Re: Fat pilots begone!

Not that I have measured or compared pilots, but has anyone considered that Geminis pilots might be correct and that other manufacturers might be undersized?? If you think about it, fighter cockpits were really small and in many instances, pilots had to squeeze into them (Bf-109 for example)
Just wondering.....

Gotta be careful with the, "Fat Pilots Be Gone" stuff. Might just chase off some of our membership.

Put a couple of airfix pilots into Dragon 109's......had to cut their lower legs off and remove most of their backsides as well.....
