As Real as It Gets....P-51 Mustang III

Very nice, especially because of the markings. But you'll notice no little coloried lights at the ends of the wing tips, like the Dragon Models. Millie is still my favorite Dragon.

I am going to enjoy Gemini as it fits into my collection of group and squadron markings. I am "complete" with the 357th. Enuff of them.

But I am in dire need of more Mustangs, in 1:72, like 339th and 353rd... Will I ever have a 51st FG "Gladys"?

Re: 2nd set of Gemini Aces

Well, I received the second set of three Gemini Aces today under the Christmas tree together with the Corgi P38 Bong (I ordered them some time ago for myself ). The P38 is really a great model and Corgi have definitely lifted their QC efforts .

As regards the Gemini models, they'll probably be my last for some time as in my opinion they're not as good as the first three with regard to QC . The RAF P51B has a severely scuffed canopy and some fogging on one side and the Galland Bf 109 also has a severely scuffed canopy, not to mentioned the paint 'sealed' flap (chipped) on the clipped wing Spitfire - all three have left me somewhat disillusioned with this range .

Also, after recently receiving Carousel 1's superlative 1/48 scale FW190D11 Red 4, I'm seriously considering stopping collecting 1/72 entirely in favour of both 1/48 (Carousel/FM/Eagles Int.) and 1/32 scale (Corgi) - that will possibly be my New Year's resolution which would mean that I may even consider selling/trading my Flying Mule Limited Edition Galland 262 .

Al Capp, creator of the famous cartoon character and Broadway show, 'Lil Abner, had a character in the strip named "Joe Blytfxz", Joe was the epitome of bad luck and always walked around with a cloud of troubles directly over his head. Your tale of poor Gemini quality sort of remind me of poor Joe. I also have the second set of Geminis and, unlike yours, I have yet to find the slightest flaw in ony of the six Geminis I now display. Sounds as though shipping may be the culprit.
However, if you're seriously interested in switching to 1:48 I have a proposition that may interest you. I now have a collection of 24 Armour/Franklin Mint models and because they take up too much room I'm plannig on getting rid of most of them. Some have been displayed; some have never left the box. The models are:

A-10 Warthog "Philadelphia Freedom"
B-25 Doolittle Raider
2 ME BF 109
2 F-4 Phantoms
F-14 TomCat
F-15 Eagle Desert Storm
F-16 Falcon Wild Weasel
F-18 Hornet Ghippy Ho
F4U VMA323 Korea
F6F-3 Lt. Flatley
F-86 "Huff"
2 FW 190s
JU 87-B
ME 62 Barr
P-38 Lightning
P-40 Robert Scott
P-47 Thunderbolt "Testa Induano"
P-51 Mustang Korea
SBD-3 Douglas Dauntless
Spitfire Douglas Bader

PM me know if you have any interest

I don't think I can fault the shipping as the shipping box was in good condition although the Gemini boxes don't appear to be as robust as those from Corgi. I should mention that most of my models are fine, including the first three Gemini Aces - it's just the second set of three that has left me somewhat disappointed (let's not even mention the aberration that's supposed to be a pilot in the RAF Mustang - truly disgusting , but I've heard that it will be corrected in future).

On the other hand, that Corgi 'Bong' P38 is a real beauty though .

I very happy for you.

Re: 2nd set of Gemini Aces

I've had no problems arising with my first two purchases of the Gemini range. But then, i wait until i can see the models before buying. A real birdcage Corsair in Series 3 would be nice!

Re: 2nd set of Gemini Aces

I have 5 of the Aces so far from Gemini and all are great, I really like the substantially higher quality prop and gear on these, also the stand although not perfect is a much better quality stand than most of the others, if the base were just a little wider and the stalk a little taller it would be the best base for durability and quality. I still think the Matchbox Bases or Stands look the best of any I have ever seen. But not as durable.

The boxes are made from a little too thin a cardstock so they are weak, but the graphics and all look great. Also the inner cradle being felt is nice.

The collector card they give is also very nice. Witty, IXO and HM give you nothing when it comes to the plane you buy. Zero Info almost and so so stands at best.

You also gotta love the amazing amount of working surfaces on the Aces that actually work and do not fall off like Dragons?

Just my two cents,, I like EM.

Re: 2nd set of Gemini Aces

You might want to check photographs of the BOB Memorial Flight Mk IX Spitfire. I've found shots showing it to have the small rudder as fitted to early Mk IX's. Gemini's model is based on the later Mk IX, fitted with the bigger more pointed rudder.
There is another preserved clipped wing Mk IX with the right rudder, perhaps Gemini's research team might want to check it out. Come on guys, there is enough material out there to enable any manufacturer to get their models correct!.

Re: 2nd set of Gemini Aces

I just ordered the RAF No. 443 (Hornet) Sq. Spitfire Mk IX. I can’t resist clipped wing Spits. As an added bonus, this is the first “E” wing model I’ve seen. All my other Spits are “B” or “C” wing.
