Just managed to "remove" my P51 prop

I just managed to remove the prop to my P51 a little too esasly for my own liking.

I was re-shuffling my collection in theoffice when I knocked the prop with a plystrene tray from a B17. POP off flew the propeller form the P51 BEWARE this was not even a hard knock the aircraft itself hardly moved.

It seems to be held on via a ruber gromit inside the prop that attaches onto a stud comming from the body. The knock obviously relesed this gromit from the stud.

Has anyone else done a similar thing yet? and if so is it easy to get the prop assembly appart to be able to re-attache the gromit sucessfully to the stud?

Re: Just managed to "remove" my P51 prop

Well mine fell of the stand and landed on the prop, without breaking. I was suprised, I had it on a Corgi stand on top of my TV(fell 25") and when I was watching Tv it fell. Dam I was very fast out of my couch, and no damage So its strange yours fell of so easly.

Re: Just managed to "remove" my P51 prop

it might have been to do with the direction of the knock which hit the prop going away from the plane and not towards it, as if you are pulling the prop off the plane.

I spun mine by hand while taking pictures with no problem. Didn't get loose or wobbly...you might talk to Gemni about it falling off so easily.

Re: Just managed to "remove" my P51 prop

I've had it since they came out and it was nice and tight (Till today). It spun very freely and showed no signs of comming off. I suspect it was the angle of th blow that did it.

I have managed to put a bit of super glue on the end of the stud and this has fixed to the rubber gromit in the prop . A lot looser than it was but now it is on and still spins. If I could split the original down the seem in the hub then it would be able to go in perfect but I don't want to damage the paint or bend the prop (too much)

I think I'll give them a ring and see if I can get a spare unassembled prop assembly.

Re: Just managed to "remove" my P51 prop

I had that happen with a corgi P-51..The stud broke off flush with the front of the plane and I was never able to remove the stud so it's been retired to the box
