Hun Hunter on Stand- Need advice

I just received my Hun Hunter P-51 and absolutly love it. The markings are crisp and sharp, and it goes great with my other P-51's which are all D models.

My only complaint, and hopefully some of you other die cast fans can shed some light, is that the "nub" on the stand that fits into the plane is very small and in my opinion it does not give a tight or good hold. I am afraid if it gets the slightest bump it will fall off the stand and break a propellor or even worse.

I was thinking of going to home depot, only because I have stock in the company and its current price SUCKS, ( sorry admin if I cannot say this ), and buy some of that liquid rubber that you can dip pliers or other tools in to give it a rubber coating, and try to see if that will add a little thickness to the nub.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Or else get some paint and add some layers to the nub, thus providing a tighter fit. But hopefully not a paint that will clash with the underside of the model.

Re: Hun Hunter on Stand- Need advice

I've fixed a similar problem before by wrapping some adhesive tape around the nub. First cut the tape to the desired width for convenience, and build up some thickness until a snug fit is achieved.

Hope this helps!

Display it on it's landing gear - don't need the stand for that. Otherwise, use small, thin pieces of electrician's tape and wrap them around the hub. 1 or 2 small strips should do it. Either way, enjoy your new plane.

Re: Hun Hunter on Stand- Need advice

I too must resort to small bits of tape to rest my Geminis more securely on their poorly designed and wobbly stands when displaying the models in the wheels-up mode. It's incredible that this company hasn't corrected this major oversight after getting so many complaints. Hopefully, its upcoming post-WW II planes will have more stable stands and deeper mounting holes.

Re: Hun Hunter on Stand- Need advice

Use a tiny ball of 'blue tack' or something similar - the sticky putty used to hold posters and notices on walls. It is easily removed and does not mark the model and can be used in such a small amount that it won't be visible.

I've had this problem with some of the Aces. I display them inside a glass cabinet. Without securing they may slightly rotate on the stand but you would have to hit it hard to get it to fall off.

Re: Hun Hunter on Stand- Need advice

Thanks for all the good advice.

I am embarassed to say that I did not think on any of the above ideas.

I've toying with the idea of taking a nick out of the arm where the air scoop rests on it with my Dremel tool.
