Goodie goodie gumdrops....PLAAF Su-27UBK is here!

If you like Gaincorp's Su-34, you'll like this new bird. It has a similar quality tooling and the same "nice" factor as the -34. To be sure, it has all the typical Gaincorp flaws that we all know and love (especially those blasted missle fins) but, nonetheless, it is very much on a par with the rather excellent Su-34. If you're a Flanker fan, this one's a must.

Almost forgot... the front probe is metal and very securely attached to the radome. And yes, the radome is incorrectly shaped but even quality plastic model companies have the Flanker radome wrong.

Looks good Fred! Is the mold improved from previous GC Su's or is it the same only with dual seats? Overall it looks very good to me, the only concern from the photos is the gap/ill-fit of the radome....is it as prominent as it looks in the photos?

There's definitely a gap between the lower fuselage and the radome but the light, from the flash, has artificially enhanced it. It's not as prominent as the pic makes it out to be. The tooling has been heavily modifed from previous Gaincorp -27s. The wings are different, the cannon vents are sharper, the vertical fins are larger and the stinger is different.

Unfortunately, it would cost quite a bit more than $9 to ship the Flanker to the UK. The shipping weight is just under 4 lbs which puts USPS Priority Int'l shipping at $32.30.

Here are some comparison pics...

With Gaincorp Su-33...

Gaincorp Su-27 with aftermarket resin radome vs Su-27UBK nose...

Is it me or does the tail assembly seems a bit off on the Chinese Su-27UBK?

Canyou specify? what do you exactly mean by off? the rudder is actually correct for the UB(K) version, it is shorter than the single seat standard rudder, but the tailfin should be the same shape and size overall. I am not very happy with the nose cone shape (radome is not technically accurate because the radome extends a bit further aft and cuts diagonally in the real thing, unlike the plastic nose cone in the model), but I am more concerned at the lack of a heat shield beside the cockpit. That cannon cannot be used, the fuselage would blow up or something! and the bort number is also wrong, I explained that earlier.

Nice effort overall, and despite all I said, I still want to get it. Too bad I haven't been able to get any retailer to grab one for me around hong kong...weird they all went to the US!!

Same here. I purchased one off eBay on May 8 but due to a custom form issue, it was shipped on May 15. Till now, it has yet to reach me. Really eagerly looking forward to receiving it.
