Su27: Gaincorp vs Witty Wings

Hi, I've plan to buy one Su27, I never buy any Gaincorp before, I got one Witty Wings F15, it's so awesome model, and I think that's best F15 in market now. So now I'm consider between Gaincorp Sukhoi SU-27 Flanker - Ser no 25, Soviet Air Force and Witty Wings Sukhoi SU-27 Red Eye Evil. Can anyone help me compare them??? What's the best choice for SU-27??? I'm found Gaincorp price is 40£, while Witty Wings is £30. Thanks.

I own both, win-arc. In fact, I own all of Witty's Su-27s and most of Gaincorp's. And you know what? They're both exquisitely beautiful. Everybody has their own opinion, of course: some say the Gaincorp is more realistic; others the Witty. Between you and me, I can't see much difference.

Consider this, though: If you fall in love with the Su-27 (like most do), and you want to buy more, Witty offers a wider choice of liveries and camo jobs. Probably much easier to find Witty Su-27s, too. Good luck!

Re: Su27: Gaincorp vs Witty Wings

Here goes my imput then, Witty has a finer finish than Gaincorp. By this I mean cleaner lines, better paint (no particles trapped like in some Gaincorps), more straight lines and precision contours. Witty does fail bigtime with the cockpi, it looks nothing like the real Cy-27 (Su-27)...the Infrared ball is also out of scale, but Gaincorp also didn't do a great job there. Iown both Chinese PLAAF verions plus the Viktor Pugachov showbird (blue 319), which should come clean, w/o any ordnance, but in fact it is fully loaded with 10 AA missiles. I had a terrible experience there, because I had to exchange it twice (the one I own now is the third!) because somebody at the factory wasn't looking when attaching missiles. Pictures were posted illustrating the misshap, and I recently had the same problem with a Witty MiG-29, which was missing a missile fin.

I own two Gaincorps, one special PLAAF Japan exclusive (accurate grey livery), and another Chinese PLAAF in a Russian camo (like the blue 25 you want but instead it is black 29) their models are of a lighter material, ordnance is toyish looking, panel lines are wider and thicker than in Wittys, no rivets (Witty does), there are some visible seams and gaps here and there, and some placards and details are decals and not printed. I am not very fond of the radome/pitot connection on Gaincorps either, but cockpit shape seems less outlandish than the Witty, altough not quite there either in my humble opinion, plastic kits have done a great job and no diecast has made it so far.

I don't really like the Evil Eye pair, one of the reasons being that I never liked cartoonish stuff on modern jets and the other because I have never seen any images of real planes in that livery.

Witty or Gaincorp?! If there is a 10 quid price difference, I'd probably go for the cheaper and more readily available one. Here in Hong Kong they both go for about the same price!

Re: Su27: Gaincorp vs Witty Wings

Thanks Gort and b-huj for their opinions and experience about Witty and Gaincorp. Gaincorp looks like very rare and limited now, i'm only can found one website still available for Su 33 and Su 27, and this price quite high than Witty, I don't know why because I read somewhere they said that's Gaincorp Su series is unlimited. Im only want pick up one aircarft for one seri in my 1:72 collection, so that's why i'm consider between Witty and Gaincorp to choose best one. After read their quote, I think maybe I'll buy Witty Su27 Ukraina or Su27 Russian Air Force Blue, and Gaincorp Su33 Sea Flanker - Ser no 29 because it's the last one and still no other brands make it now.
How about Gaincorp Lockheed Martin F - 22 Raptor ED002?? Anyone here have it and can review it quickly???

Got that one too, win-arc. Glad I did, considering that they're now SUPER-RARE and all but impossible to find (not to rub it in). To be honest, I haven't removed mine from its box, so I can't comment on form or finish accurately. But looking at it through the box window, it looks ... terrific! (Loads of help, right?)

Re: Su27: Gaincorp vs Witty Wings

Thanks Gort, I've just immediately order Gaincorp F22 Raptor ED after read ur post, hope I'll receive it soon. I'm found only one web available for Gaincorp aircraft series, just one left for F22..... Now I'm consider about Su 34, they tell that's last one in stock as well, I paid too much for aircraft this month, maybe i'm ll wait to next mont. I see the post what's best of Gaincorp, and everybody tell this is Su34, i wish i enough money to buy it now....

The Su-34 is very, very cool -- if I were to reduce my GC collection to just one model, I would have to keep one of those. You can see pics of mine here:

I have the Gaincorp Bort 34 Sea Flanker and absolutely love it. I would have considered Witty but my Gaincorp has hinged wings and the detail rocks. For modern jets I would choose Witty over Gaincorp but not on the SU-27's. If you want an incredible F-15, F-16 and F-18 go Witty or go broke!

Pappy, your words my thoughts!
I have the first Su-34, black 43 and white 45. Livery-wise, the latter one is almost spot-on, saw a rare picture of these planes in-service and their livery looks almost exactly like white 45 too!

I also have F-22 ED002, it is a nice stop-gap, but not a model I praise for its accuracy and manufacturing quality.
The Gaincorp Su-33 is just totally wrong: the shape and size of the canard foreplane and wing extension is misinterpreted, just like the kit-set they used as referrence.

Louie, have you read posts by fellow collector David Hingtgen for instance? The Witty F-16 is plaged with inaccuracies, many also said that the twin-seat cockpit canopy of the F-15 is totally misshaped...and weapons on the F-18E/F should have NEVER been white...but after all, I have all three Witty releases!
