| If b-huj is correct and Gaincorp is still alive and kicking (more or less exclusively for the Chinese market), perhaps they’ll grace us with a few more Flankers or whatever. Hope so.
If Gaincorp is reading this, I know a whole bunch of ravenous collectors who’d die for a 1/72 Mig-25. I’m not at all sure the Chinese drive (or drove) this bird, but the Russians sure do (did). |
Gaincorp is definitely not dead, but they dropped the int'l market a bit, and as I said, concentrating on taking orders from Chinese aircraft manufacturing corporations and presumably making more money than doing retail. Also, they have a huge model car business, and many of the car models you see in China-legendmodel for instance are Gaincorp made.
Actually, I've recently seen a 1/144 A-50., AKA Il-76 Mainstay. Not a Chinese AWACS, it was painted in Russian livery and a spinning dorsal big radar (not battery operated like the Corgi 707AWACS, it is human finger powered). IT was hefty and accurate to the best of my knowledge, with all tiny protruding things, simultating sensors and antennae, plus transparent cockpit, moveable wheels, rudder and ailerons (I think the rest was fixed). By this I don't mean they ARE going to make the Mig-25, because there is a Chinese version of the A-50, made by the Chinese themselves after the Israelies pulled-out due to US pressure. That Gaincorp A-50 may be a shortcut for 1) The Russian A-50, 2) The former Isreali version for export to China, 3) The Chinese effort after Isreal denied sales of the already tested model (there is a prototype sitting somewhere in Israel).
