By the way, does a stand come with this model ? I know Gaincorp do not usually have stands in the package, but I am sure is saw a pic somewhere of the Berkut on a stand.

My co-worker bugged the heck out of me to get the Su-47 so i sold it to him.
He collects all the Russian fighters and at the time the Su-47 was sold out.
Nothing wrong with the Su-47 except they use decals and i like painted tampos on my planes.
It had no stand when i bought it.

I eventually succumbed to the inevitable and bought one of these from Aces High Collectables here in the UK, a very friendly and helpful diecast seller by the way. They said the stands appear to come with a special Far Eastern packaging of the model and are not available in the west.

Also of interest they said that high metal prices are responsible for putting up the price of models with metal stands and this is particularly noticeable in the Corgi 2007 price increases.

Well i'll be....They did have stands for them in the far east......to bad you couldn't get your hands on one ...that would be a nice touch.

Gaincorps moulds are also sold in a cardboard box w/o window, with a dark silver stand of uncertain material. Saw the Su-47 and a version of the PLAAF Su-27 in that packaging and I am not sure which markets they were supposed to go to, because it is not generally found in model shops in Hong Kong or Taiwan. Oh, and before you go happy about it, think of where the stand plugs into your model...in the case of the Flanker, they have to sacrifice a missile to drill the hole!

I have the standard Su-47 and a few other Gaincorps, and I really think it is a mean looking plane, but the model would use a bit more attention to detail and craftmanship for the price! At least tampo-print the damn thing! (and glue the tail fins at the same angles, don't plug the nose probe poiting down...put decals unaligned...bla bla bla).

Ouch Think I would rather have the missile instead of the stand. Mind you I don't believe the SU47 model comes with any weaponry as it is just a demonstration prototype, so the stand would not really mess up the fuselage detail.

I have see various figures bandied about for the total number of Berkut models manufactured. These range from only 240 to 650 worldwide. Does anyone have an accurate total for units produced worldwide as I had assumed this was NOT a limited edition.

You are right, the Berkut in particular does not carry any external weapons (if it did, it would be in the underfuse bay, Raptor-style), but I still pass on drilling holes. I was alerting about the Flankers missing missiles (no pun intended) because of the stand. I used a Witty Flanker stand on a Gaincorp and it works perfectly fine, with a little care for that arrestor hook on some releases.
And I would NOT trust any of those figures regarding number of copies made. Gaincorp has a reputation for re-issuing models with upgrades, different liveries, more accurate details, or no mods at all. I would not be surprised in suddenly some Berkuts appear with the red stars and all details tampo-printed instead of the decals we got.
On a totally different note, the Berkut (and the F-22) are famed for NOT having gaps between panels. These planes are supposed to have very smooth surfaces for the sake of reducing their radar cross-sections. I know models would probably look a bit less interesting without panel lines, but digging trenches on 1/72 models won't make them look more realistic to me. The Witty approach to modern jet fighters and panel lines fits my taste better, although some custom weathering would make it look even better.

My Su-47 is in transit with UPS right now.. Ordered this puppy from "Petes Collectibles" for $29 (Plus S&H).. It's scheduled to arrive at my door this Thursday morning!! Gonna be like Christmas morning..
