Re: GC7003 Chengdu FC-1 Xiaolong "Fierce Dragon"

Sure this one is not the 1/48 version in the pictures, coz it looks much better than that other one?

As I wrote in my earlier post, if the 8" wingspan is true, then it must be a 1/48 model. B-huj's comment about vastly better detail confirms my suspicion.

The box says 1/72, and I measured the wingspan myself.

Re: GC7003 Chengdu FC-1 Xiaolong "Fierce Dragon"

I believe you when you say that, but simple math will show you it can't be right. Globalsecurity.org (and other sources) will give you the wingspan of the FC-1/JF-17 as 9.5 meters (31ft) which at 1/48 equates to about 7.8". At 1/72 on the other hand, it should be 5.2". So I believe the scale on the box is a misprint.

By the way, several US diecast sites do state this is a 1/48 model, no mention of a 1/72 even being available.

Not trying to be difficult, it's just that I'm attempting to make sense of this. I prefer 1/48 myself, so I don't mind either way.

Could it be typo? Anyway, it still a nice airplane and I've decided to get one.

Re: GC7003 Chengdu FC-1 Xiaolong "Fierce Dragon"

look at this page, it's a hong kong retailer
http://www.modelcarexpo.com/proddeta...pdtid=GC_7003C
I guess it is the same model mhackl shows but the "c" would stand for Chinese, notice the chinese words "xiao" and "long" writen on the nose, while the one above shows "thunder".
It isn't rare for manufacturers to make mistakes on the packaging (Corgi!).

Re: GC7003 Chengdu FC-1 Xiaolong "Fierce Dragon"

I recieved both the 7003 and 7005 today and I can tell you that the pilot figurines are definitely 1/72. I have no idea about the actual size of this aircraft so I can't speak to it's scale.

Do a quick visual comparison to a 1/72 scale F-16. They should be comparable in size. If the FC-1 is much bigger, then the scale is 1/48 (or in any case larger than 1/72).

Re: GC7003 Chengdu FC-1 Xiaolong "Fierce Dragon"

Another way to look at this is to compare the size and dimensions of each fighter in actual 1:1 scale data to get
a better perspective of scale. It appears to me that both fighters are relatively close to each others s/d specs.
Given the GAINCORP measurements of the FC-1 diecast, I will conclude that this is a probably a 1/48 version.

FC-1 Xialong Dimensions:

Length 14.97 m (49 ft 1 1/2 in)
Height 4.77 m (15 ft 8 in)
Wing span 9.46 m (31 ft 1/2 in)

F-16 Viper Dimensions:

Length 14.8 m (49 ft 5 in)
Height 4.8 m (16 ft)
Wing span 9.8 m (32 ft 8 in)

Re: GC7003 Chengdu FC-1 Xiaolong "Fierce Dragon"

and the pilot figures ARE 1/72 (or exactly the same Gaincorp uses on its 1/72 models, never bothered to change on the 1/48 xiaolong model I've come across several times)
