Franklin Mint Slanted Acrylic Riser

Since I ran out of display space a while ago I was searching for a way to increase the available space in my cabinets without major work to my cabinets.

After seeing these risers at a local store I became curious about where to get them and who makes them.

Meet the Franklin Mint Slanted Acrylic Riser - Item Number: D1X4107 - Retails for $14.99

I would have imagined FM producing this stuff! I gather these were made for FM dealers who want to display their merchandise in a favorable way (hence not only in their respective boxes).

To make a long story short, I bought a couple of them and played around until I found an economical yet visual apealing way to cramm more models in the cabinets!

Well, I feel it looks kind of "packed" now. What's your opinion?

Here's the pics...

P.S. Yeah, the Mirage is out of place, I put it there till I dig out the Fulcrum that's supposed to sit there.

Looks like a great idea AA! Can you tell if there's additional stress on the landing gear (I ask b/c FM planes are quite "hefty")?

Thanks for you input Trex!

As far as I can tell no. There is a small bump on top of the riser that prevents the model from sliding down. The Hornet seems to take it pretty good.

One small problem is that the riser won't hold all FM models.

I tried to place bigger models (B-25, Ju-52, P-38 and B-26) on it. The Ju-52 does fit but not the rest due to the main landing gear, the diameter between the wheels is bigger than the riser.

Well, since I have a ton of Hornets it saves me a lot of space!

INtereresting... I think it looks cool, and "just packed enough" I'm not crazy about the downward angle of the models though, have you tried them the other way around -- though I'm guessing the rear stabs and the verticle stabs of the models underneath will be the problem there..?

Thanks AA, great idea btw! I tried something similar with extra 1/72 Dragon Armor display cases but they were very limited as to which planes would fit (i.e. F-104, Harriers, anything with a smaller wheel base). Yours seem the better idea!

Hm, I haven't tried it with a Phantom but I guess it won't fit. The gear is too wide.

Put "Franklin Mint Slanted Acrylic Riser" in google and you'll find some retailers...

Thanks Pappy, at first I wasn't hot about the angle, too. But it works great for the showbird Hornets. With the angle you see more of the paint job on the upper fuselage while standing in front of the cabinet.

And yes, I tried it the other way down. I feared the front gear wouldn't hold the heavy model and might get bend or even break after a while...
