F111 new mould for 2009

Last edited by buddy : 07-22-2008 at 02:27 PM. Reason: editing
franklin mint armour collection are releasing the F111 in 2009. The F111 will not be done in diecast but in resin as mould costs are too high to recoop, Becasue only the USAF & RAAF used this aircraft.

Sounds cool. Not sure about this resin deal, but we'll see how it turns out. Next thing you know, they'll start making all their "die-casts" out of resin.

Re: F111 new mould for 2009

The main problems with "resin" models, aside from their lack of heftiness, of course, is the unrealistic look of their solid canopies and the inclination to paint on panel lines rather than incorporating them as part of the basic mold. It will be interesting to see how FM handles these issues with its F-111. Will we get a plastic version of those klunky wooden models or something that is really worth buying? Somehow, I'm not very optomistic on this cost-saving approach, however I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Re: F111 new mould for 2009

I sincerely hope this “resin” resolution doesn’t fly with other manufacturers—namely Hobby Master. If so, this boy will abandon diecast collecting altogether.

What the heck is with this resin expedient, anyway? Given collectors’ hallowed love for diecast, that’s like committing hari kari.

I'm with you Epapazian. The bottom line is, we want diecast. Maybe it will be more viable in 1/72.

I'm hoping that it isn't a complete resin model. Hopefully it will still look basically like a regular die-cast except the main body is resin instead of die-cast. Still has the canopy details, etc. same as regular die-cast. If not, I wont consider even buying it.

I would really like to see this made in a complete diecast.....I will wait on this one and see how it turns out...
This is really not the way to go to cut cost.

Re: F111 new mould for 2009

Depends on the type of resin but all the resin models/statue I own are EXTREMELY fragile. Be interesting to see how they address the wings and landing gear though.

Re: F111 new mould for 2009

Hi AA, I got the info from MIB global. The RAAF F111 item number is B11E000 but no mention of a USAF F111. They also say the model will have wheels up and come with a display stand. Cheers

Sounds cool!
