Do I really have one of a kind?????

Hello -

I recently purchased what was advertised as a one of a kind diecast airplane from the Franklin Mint. The plane in question is an F-4 1:48 scale with white stars on a blue background on the top and a big red "M G" on the tail. The box has a green tag stuck to it which reads "The Franklin Mint Quality Sample". There is a check mark in the box that reads Sample Condidional Acdepted and Need Correction Before Prodn.

There is a list of items on the tag:

PGM 1/4 S F4-96103
ISSUE Pos Sample
PART# B11 C987
VEND. CP
DATE Feb 4 04
FDC QE SF Chan
TFM QE J Sellarz

I'll post pictures as soon as I can get them downloaded.

Is this model a one of a kind? What's it worth?

Any information and comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

That's a Marines F4 Hell Angels....It must be that ebay seller that had some of those listed last week...
It would be rare because it's a Pre-Pro before the final production version was accepted.
As for the value i'm not really sure on that one.

Re: Do I really have one of a kind?????

(that is likely from that really "friendly" seller I told ya all about last week...)

They are one of a kind in that they are pre-production quality samples that were sent to FM for sign off before the main production of retail versions. Some of these are rejects with errors, some are accepted and are the same as what you would get with the retail version.

Myself, I'm not really sure if a pre-pro is truly something that should be coveted as most have errors. (even more than the standard off the shelf FM, that is... )

One of a kind is unique. There is only one. In time, it will outpace the price of the runs of 100 or 1000, et al.

errors don't count if there is only one.

Mo, I think Lorraine says it with a touch of sarcasm !

Thinking about the value of a pre pro, the Corgi ones on ebay sold for very high prices so you may well be right.

Were these pre-production planes Jim?
