Re: Do I really have one of a kind?????

One of a kind is unique. There is only one. In time, it will outpace the price of the runs of 100 or 1000, et al.

errors don't count if there is only one.

Well, I'm not sure exactly what the OP has here... if it's a pre-pro sample that was eventually green lighted I don't see it as "one of a kind". If it's a pre-pro sample that was never produced for whatever reason, that could be interesting and truly "one of a kind". If it's from the seller I think they had several listed that fell in either of these categories and some of the listings were just pure BS, too.

This Phantom was mass-produced so the only difference between it and the retail versions are likely QA gaffs that FM actually corrected before launch.... while somehow missing those "wingtip" tanks

This bird is retired but several have gone for $40-50 on ebay lately.......

(and why the shouting? )

Not sure about that Mo, however, there is only one of me and Lorraine says I am priceless !

Does she say this before, during, or after she hits you over the head with a frying pan when you ask if you can get a larger display cabinet?

ps: we love ya, Jim!

Mo, I think Lorraine says it with a touch of sarcasm !

Thinking about the value of a pre pro, the Corgi ones on ebay sold for very high prices so you may well be right.

AAAH!!!...sarcasm, a woman's weapon. A dripping cauldron of acidic reproach. The melting down of the male ego.

Re: Do I really have one of a kind?????

Were these pre-production planes Jim?

I think so Mo, they were (if I remember correctly) sold without being painted.

In fact yes I am pretty sure they were pre prods.

Sorry to drift off a little there,

I think that me and Mo are of the opinion that bdreed7 may well have made a good investment for the future.

Question Re: Do I really have one of a kind?????

Last edited by John Youngs : 05-24-2008 at 11:29 PM. Reason: correcting grammatical errors
Hello -

I recently purchased what was advertised as a one of a kind diecast airplane from the Franklin Mint. The plane in question is an F-4 1:48 scale with white stars on a blue background on the top and a big red "M G" on the tail. The box has a green tag stuck to it which reads "The Franklin Mint Quality Sample". There is a check mark in the box that reads Sample Condidional Acdepted and Need Correction Before Prodn.

There is a list of items on the tag:

PGM 1/4 S F4-96103
ISSUE Pos Sample
PART# B11 C987
VEND. CP
DATE Feb 4 04
FDC QE SF Chan
TFM QE J Sellarz

I'll post pictures as soon as I can get them downloaded.

Is this model a one of a kind? What's it worth?

Any information and comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

bdreed7 - It all depends on what you're collecting for - if you're collecting purely for "speculation" purposes, then it's probably valued at around $200 to $250 right now. If you're collecting simply to get the model itself, then what you paid for (any "errors" aside for the moment) was a model with a green tag with some markings on it. Don't let people tell you how to collect, but if you're being honest with yourself as far as what is motivating your "collecting desires", you'll be much happier if you go with what you feel is justified for your motivations for collecting. Me - I'm happy paying a much-reduced price for a "standard" model - I don't need a green tag. Remember, if you paid a high price for it, it's ONLY worth what someone else is willing to pay for it - at the time you go to sell it. If "green tag" models don't mean much to most collectors out there, then you're going to have a much harder time getting what you paid for it as opposed to the worth of a "standard" model. Then again, there's always one person out there willing to pay for it, it seems... - JY
