Question Minor Alteration of an Armour/FM Phantom

Last edited by John Youngs : 05-06-2008 at 09:30 AM. Reason: clarifying a couple points and correcting grammatical errors
Folks - Here's what I've got in mind: This all came about because of FM's botched "J-79" exhaust nozzle use on the (B11E756) "Alcock & Brown" FGR.2 (F-4M) Phantom commemorating the 1919 A&B crossing of the Atlantic - the dual Phantom "recreation" done in 1979. I want to try and switch the J-79 turbojet nozzles for the CORRECT RR Spey low-bypass turbofan nozzles - ala' the Brit. RN 892-Sqn; "Omega" Phantom - a model in which they actually managed to "get it right"!
I've been told that nozzles from existing "Omega" Phantoms probably would work, since the fuselage they used is the same as all of their other Phantom models. I've also been told that nozzles from Hasegawa 1/48th scale models might NOT work, as these are much more "true to scale", and the RR Spey-powered planes were actually wider and the engine nozzles were actually larger in diameter than the G.E. J-79's.
(1) I'd like someone who has BOTH one or more US Phantom models AND the Brit. "Omega" Phantom to PLEASE "mike" (using dial calipers or some similar such measuring device) the outside diameters ("O.D.'s") of both of the two different nozzle types and tell me if the switch can be made with minimum effort; and, if it can be done,
(2) Does ANYONE out there have one or two "well-used or abused" Brit. Phantoms (B11B459 - or #98046) that they'd like to part with - for a minimum of cost?? If so, let me know via either PM's or email (JBY53@HARBORNET.COM) please! Many thanks!!
(3) Also, if someone knows if the plastic Hasegawa RR Spey (1/48th scale, of course) engine nozzles would work ("mike" these also, please...), please inform me of that fact, as well!! Again, many thanks for all of your time and considerations in these matters! - JY
