1/48 Spanish F/A-18, how rare???

I just picked up a new in box 1/48 FM two seat Spanish Air Force F/A-18 Hornet for $24.99.

Does anybody have this model, know how many were made, when it was originally released & if it's numbered like the RCAF birds?

I think I saw that one yesterday on ebay -- the livery was too plain for me (I like them show birds , I know, I'm a minority). I was wondering about the rarity of it, though. That may have been the deal of the week... (I got the Marauders show bird for peanuts, too...)

I think there was a site somewhere that had FM production runs... I'll see if I can dig it up, I think there's a thread with it around here someplace though...

Every week there is one of these on ebay; always for the same seller. I'd love to get one of these for 25$, but the seller won't reply to me when I inquire about the shipping costs to Canada. I've probably sent him 20 messages over the last 3 months and he just won't reply. Strange way of doing business if you ask me...

Yeah shes a little plain, but NATO jets always interest me & I figured for that price even if i hate it once it arrives, I could still sell & get back what I paid for it.
I searched google to see if I could find any info on the model & didn't come up with much only that they were listed as sold out on a few international dealers pages.
I know FM does special releases exclusively for some countries such as the RCAF, Luftwaffe & JASDF models, seems a few always slip over to the U.S. wonder if this is one of them?

Great catch on that show bird Pappy, I couldn't buy it at whole sale that low.

Same seller I think that you got yours from -- last three went for $22-25 each

I've seen a few models come through from that guy that were limited releases, all for markets I know little about. Some crazy deals on FM stuff right now on ebay, which is pretty strange considering how tough they supposedly are about their prices in the retail chain.

When you get the bird, post some pics and I'm sure one of our overseas members will chime in with the info sooner or later!

Re: 1/48 Spanish F/A-18, how rare???

This Hornet is a limited "dealers version" with a 400 production run.

Because of the one seller dumping them on ebay the current value is not that high but I bet it will increase over time once the selling on ebay stops.

The model is IMHO pretty nice since you don't see that many current Spanish jets in 1/48.

Thanks for the info AA, I knew you would come through.
400 units is pretty small run, were these sold to dealers world wide or were they meant for Spanish dealers like the German market models??

BTW I will snap some pics once she arrives.

No problem Phantom Phan, you're welcome. I just came back from Florida yesterday...

Yes, 400 is the baseline production run if a dealer wants to have "his" own model. AFAIK this one was made for a Spanish dealer in addition to some more (like the Ju-52 Civil War). Somehow these were available to other dealers in the US.

I got one and I like it pretty much.
