Re: Latest FM acquisition

Yeah, I plan to -- anyone have a good source for a decal sheet, 1:48 and 1:72?

Aeromaster Decals USA puts out a decal sheet for both 1/48th and 172nd scale (Even one for 1/32nd scale too.). Stock number for 1/48th is AN48545 and 1/72nd AN72184. I usually pick mine up from Squadron.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Never say never again...

I had a Boyington Corsair from FM and was never happy with it -- the mold just didn't have the right profile to me. The Corsair looked too thin in the nose and thick in the middle, and the body a bit... short. So I sold it a few years ago and said "I'll wait for a better 1:48 option of my favorite bird." Well, it's been three years and still no better option in sight. So I caved and tried again -- this time on a version I'd heard was more accurate. Couldn't resist $33 delivered either...

I dig the scheme a lot, "Bedcheck Charlie" B11C988 Cdr. Bordelon - the Navy's first prop ace in Korea, the only Navy ace in Korea, the only night ace in Korea, and perhaps the last prop ace ever.

It sill looks too chunky to me, but what's a Corsair nut to do?

Re: Latest FM acquisition

That's really nice. The reasons you gave for getting this remind me of what I was thinking when I got the Suez one. Finish, scale, paint quality etc...

All very nice. Anybody who passes on amodel of this size and quality for 30 something dollars is looney.

Yes, it definitely has a better overall fit/finish than the Boyington -- and it's all pad-printed....

And I'd have to agree with that label -- particularly if the 30-something dollar model in question is a Corsair

I have this one and it's one of my favorite FM Korean War Corsairs....

Me too! I also got mine for around $30.....shipped!! No one else bid on it so I was able to get it dirt cheap and I gotta admit it's a sharp looking bird with a great history.

Thumbs down Re: Latest FM acquisition

(Nice snags AA!)

Pics of my latest, with one more to come... (Let's play "spot the FM QA gaff" with the B-25 and He-111... anyone?)

This last one may be my favorite FM Phantom so far -- all pad-printed, and it's an original CDC release -- go figure! (My original release Omega is all stickers... and my FM release RAF Firebirds is all stickers).

Pappy - Don't know about the B-25 & the HE-111, but the "Q/A gaff" with the Firebirds Phantom, as is the case with the new Alcock & Brown Commemorative 1919 FGR.2 Phantom (& the reason I never bothered with the darn thing in the first place) is the use of the G.E. J-79 turbojet engine exhaust nozzles!! PISSED me off - especially since it came so close on the heels of the RN "Omega" FG.1 Phantom - they actually DID the right thing, there!! Go figure...!! - JY

Re: Latest FM acquisition

Boy, did my wife pick a great week to be outta town! This one just touched down --- got it on ebay for $25, at that price simple curiosity got the better of me. I like showbird schemes and this one is one of the cooler ones I've seen. The model..... well... it's a Franklin Mint. At leat all the graphics are pad-printed! I don't believe the nose should be yellow, and I don't believe it should be carrying weapons -- so I may remove those... ??

There is a strange residue on the canopy that I couldn't get off with just a damp cloth -- it seems to have been left by the plastic strip that FM puts around the nose and canopy to secure it during transit.... strange as the canopy does not open. Any ideas on how to clear it up?

Steve, I bought the same bird a few months back when Joepilot had their clearance sale and mine had the same problem except the canopy was completely opaque. I sent it back for a refund but was disappointed as it was their last F-18 Marauders Showbird.

I wonder if it's a problem with this particular bird or other F-18's or just a random thing? None of the 70+ FM planes I have has had any glazing or opaqueness in the canopy.

Things that make you go......hmmmmmmm...............
