Re: Latest FM acquisition

I just picked this up on ebay for 29.00 not bad for a 1:48 F-15 but man i didn't know it be that big.
Here is a picture of it next to my HM Buff....I have got to find a place for this thing it's much bigger then my Phantoms.
JP

Nice snag, JP -- I'm looking for the 1:100 version right now, for that space issue -- can't beat that price!

Re: Latest FM acquisition

Aikens has some photos of the clipped wing Spit. Looks like they put out two maybe three different clipped wing models. Not sure about the third one in that it shows drawing as clipped wing, but picture does not show the whole model to include wing tips. The two that look for sure to be clipped winged are sold out, but the third is still avialable.

Ah, so they do -- thanks Cruver... can't believe AA's prices on FM "retired" issues though.

Re: Latest FM acquisition

The Pierre Clostermann clipped wing bird is the rarest it seems and my personal favorite really.

Never got one because they're expensive when they come on Ebay. Over retail when I was looking but that's been a year or more for sure.

Under $70 shipped would be a deal I think.

The F-15 is really great JP! My local place has them on display and you're right, they're huge!

Great pick up!

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!

I have the 'other' clipped wing Spit, the RCAF 401st Squadron and it's a pretty nice bird!!

Looking forward to annoying the 'former' Florida Diecast Forum members!!

Yep, definitely pricey.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Latest FM acquisition

Here's some new stuff I got:

B292 P-47D-27-RE Thunderbolt Col. Anthony V. Grossetta's , "Angie"of the 512th F.S., 406th F.G. Asche, Belgium

B178 P-51D Mustang "Old Crow" USAAF 363rd FS, 8th A. F. Capt.Clarence Anderson. Europe 1944

The P-51 is special since it is autographed in black pen by Colonel "Bud" Anderson & Major John Kirla at a Combat Legends Symposium at Duxford some years ago The model comes with a letter of authenticity guaranteeing these autographs are the real deal.

Both pilots flew the P-51 Mustang with the 362nd FG, 357 FG during WWII, escorting the USAAF heavy bombers in to the heart of the Third Reich. Col Anderson ended the war with 16 air-to-air victories. He was awarded 5 DFC's, 14 AM, 2LM's, Bronze Star. Major John Kirla ended the war with 11.5 air-to-air victories. He was awarded Silver Star, DFC & 13 AM's

I really like signed models. But they are very pricey and hard to get.

Question Re: Latest FM acquisition

Yeah, I know... it arrived that way The whole model has sticker decals, no tampo anywhere (does this livery exist with all tampo graphics, do you know?). The big decals on the stab look like they came off due to friction in the shipping container during transit. I didn't pay all that much for it, and I worked out a fair refund with the original seller. I'm going to get a set of decals and replace the markings on the fin at least. I'm thinking of taking them all off and doing a complete overhaul. However, I've never done anything like that and havent' messed with water-slide decals since I was 12 Unfortunately the only decals sets I've found so far are in the U.K. See my thread in the repair section.

Pappy - Sorry, but to the best of my knowledge, this model was only available with water-slide decals. I've gone through 3 of these damn things now - I hope to acquire another one shortly from another member who says his is nice with no decal separation, silvering, etc. Apparently these were shipped with no "L" shaped mounting screw, either - hence, the box-rubbing damage one encounters. I tell people who want to ship these to place another thin sheet of bubble-wrap on top of the model itself, then close the styrofoam lid & place that back within the outer box. That seems to help a lot in that regard. If you're going to replace the decals completely, you can go one of two routes - first, you can wait and buy a 1/48th scale plastic Hasegawa kit on "the Bay" and just use those decals - or, take ALL of the old ones off & strip off the old paint (removing or masking the canopy, landing gear assemblies, missile pylons, etc; and repainting the plane with the CORRECT GLOSS paint of the original. Why they ever used matte-finish paint in the first place is totally beyond me!! Whoever did the "research" for this one should've been "B...-slapped", and HARD!! Here's a few shots of the real deal - maybe this'll help!! You can also contact Ranjet to see if he can answer your question on this model being available with any tampo-pad-printed graphics - but I'm willing to bet no. Some were taken before the RWR antenna (the odd-looking, "flat" thing atop the vertical fin) was installed. The real plane was scrapped in 1977. - JY

Re: Latest FM acquisition

Thanks for the info John, I don't see myself repainting it though. Heck, maybe I'll just ebay it with the set of decals and see if I can recoup my investment!
