Junkers JU-52 Three Bladed High Altitude Prop

The FM German JU-52 early version flown over Austria ( high mountains) has three bladed props. There has been some question on the subject. I was just watching "Great Battles of WWII" DVD and there it was...a damaged JU-52 in North Africa with the three bladed high altitude props. Just as in the FM model. Excellent close ups too. It seems that some ( few) JU-52 were fitted with these high altitude props after all. Pancanal

Re: Junkers JU-52 Three Bladed High Altitude Prop

Hi PanCanal,

Sounds like you saw a rare bit of footage and photography, would love to see it. However the Ju 52 diecast model (FM's version with the three bladed props) depicts a 1936, 37-era "Auxillary Bomber" for decidedly non-Alps flights. I am of the mind the three blades are incorrect, as are the shape of the national insignia.

Re: Junkers JU-52 Three Bladed High Altitude Prop

Anyone have information on the new British Airways Corgi Ju-52? It's 3 bladed but apparently re-engined too. Looks interesting. Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series AA36903

Question Re: Junkers JU-52 Three Bladed High Altitude Prop

It's interesting that FM only put the (3) bladed prop on one specific model. Makes you think it might not be a mistake. I wish there was a way to communicate with FM and see if the model is based on some specific photos they have.

Re: Junkers JU-52 Three Bladed High Altitude Prop

That one is not a JU 52, looks more like a Savoia-Marchetti SM.82 Marsupiale.

Kinda looks like the Italian CANT (Cantiere Navale Triestino) Z. 1007 Alcione. Hard to tell from the blurry photo.

Re: Junkers JU-52 Three Bladed High Altitude Prop

Canopy frame work looks more like the SM 82 (Cant Z canopy frame work more exstensive), and engine cowlings more in line with the SM 82.
