Elmer, how does the 1/48 FM He111 compare with the 1/72 Corgi version (which I'm very fond of) with regard to 'rivet detail' and overall accuracy - is the larger version substantially better?

Sorry, Cardo, I missed your post earlier.

Regarding FM's 1:48 version... I thought the panel lines and rivet detail a "bit" heavy (slightly deeply engraved and wide), but overall I really liked the rivet detail on the FM version... adds a nice touch which at the scale, I think, is needed. FM did the riveting the way I like: at the wing root, with selective riveting in other areas, like on panel access hatches... not overdone at all. I haven't had the model for some time now, so I am drawing on memory: but I remember really liking the gear: struts and tires, they looked fabulous. I liked the nose area on the FM model more than Corgi's. I think Corgi's join lines in the nose area (basically aft of the canopy) detract from the model as do the join lines in the engin nacelle areas. But then, FM's join lines at the wing root aren't terrific, and neither is the join line running the length of the fuselage/tail area. No open bomb-bay option on the FM model... I really like that on Corgi's. To my eye, the overall shape of the FM model was just fine. Accuracy-wise in other aspects, I can't say, I don't feel expert enough to comment more.

I sold off my BoB FM model because of size and lack of a decent place to display it, but honestly, I also sold it off because I just wasn't crazy about the livery. As FM develops the line with other livery options I will be sorely tempted to go for another... especially if they do a mottled livery that is done real well. I must admit, the torpedo version is very looking, and is tempting me. I'll be a gonner if FM does a nice doodle-bug version. I now have a display case option that may just do the trick. Have you picked one up yet?

Elmer, you are one of the opinion leaders of the forum and your positive comments on this mold was a big influence on my interest in buying this plane. (He 111 Torpedo bomber).

Shoot... I thought most think I'm an anal-retentive, anti FM critic obsessing over exposed screw heads, blank air intakes, and water-slide decals!

But thanks for the kind words, Ara!

Let me know how you like it. I'm putting it on my wish list (although at its size I may wait to see what 2009 brings with the line as I need to keep it to just one--I would love a Doodle-bug carrier--but if no Doodle-bug for 2009 I won't be able to hold out as the torpedo livery looks real sharp).
