Well that convinced me to get one.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

I believe they mostly flew at night just as the current gunships do for exactly that reason.

Thanks for that reply, 1250ships. That makes sence. Ya learn something new every day.....whooda thought, a Douglas passenger aircraft used as a GUNSHIP! Cool looking ship! I'd love one in 1:72.

Don't know if anyone is interested in this but thought I'd pass it along. I had a guy contact me about this model. Here's what he said.

I was at Bien Hoa in 68-69. I guarded the "Spooky" on many occasions. Just as a point of interest, one airmen received the Congressional Medal Of Honor while aboard one of our "Spookies" on 2-23-1969. I'll forward along a link in case you would like to read about him.

Thanks for the link RJ, you reminded me of something...the AC-47 at the Hurlburt Field airpark is painted in these markings. Hurlburt is the home for AFSOC and the -130 gunships.

I don't know what the AC-47's threat was during Nam. I can't recall many SA threats to birds or Helicopters. My son loves playing the gunner on his Call of Duty 4 Modern Combat game. You'd swear it was real when playing it. As for this model, its awful tempting to break my no bigger than 1/72nd scale rule.

That is one cool model! The U-tube footage is also quite interesting. I wonder how they're cleared to engage? Someone on the ground? From the looks of things it's pretty easy to shoot up innocent people. Hell, I'd start running if that lot came down on me.

I suspect that there are definitely a team of Spec. Forces 'spotters' directing the fire of the gunship (visual Mk1 'eyeball' & laser designators) - a particularly risky endeavour with the 'threat' of 'friendly fire' possibly greater than normal.
