Question Re: Franklin Mint Missouri -- anyone have it?

Pappy - Sorry, but I've got a friend who's got one of these & while like most Armour stuff in that from a distance it looks impressive - up close, to me, anyway, it sucks big time! The detailing is horrible - the lower front portion of the hull is shaped totally wrong - ever see a large ship with a flat front end (under the water line)??? The OS2U-3 Kingfisher floatplanes are horrible - the real planes had two-bladed props. The guns look like they were made by a child, and most of the other detailing looks like it came from a hodge-podge of discarded plastic odds & ends from other projects. For the kind of money they're asking for this model, it's as far removed from being "museum quality" as you can get. You wanna great Missouri model? Go plastic... - Sorry, I'd pass - even for $150 - forget it!! - JY

JY, thanks for the update. Now I'm going to have to reconsider! Would you happen to know whether the one offered on sale by Military Issues dot com is the FM one? It looks to be different because of the display stand.[/quote]
Pappy - Sorry, no idea. Maybe someone else can answer this question for you. Good luck in your decision. Cheers, JY -

Re: Franklin Mint Missouri -- anyone have it?

Hi Pappy

I would have to throw my weight behind JY.I have looked this model over several times with the thought of buying one but at the end of the day the quality is what kills it for me.Major issues with mian turret barrel alignment just shouldn't happen. If evrything is wrong on the model these have to be right.

I would and are looking for a pre-built plastic and have found a couple of ebayers that do good work. The missouri is 1:350 tamiya kit with a price tag of 900.00 but you can find some excellent 1:700 kits for around half the price. The first Bismark is a Trumpeter kit with PE parts and selling for 300.00.The last 2 are a weathered version of the Bismark in 1:700 scale also.It is selling for 500.00.

Those aren't Kingfishers on the back of the Missouri, that is why they don't look right. They are Curtiss SC-1 Seahawks. They are correct. I like the FM ships.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Franklin Mint Missouri -- anyone have it?

Yeah, the Yorktown looks awesome... but $1250.... I don't think so. Thanks for the feedback on the Missouri -- I like the historical signficance of this battlewagon. Don't know if I'll ever spring for it, but a few have gone for reasonable amounts on ebay lately.

If this price is for the 1:350 scale Yorktown then there is one on ebay for $435 "buy it now".

Can we try with real bullets now?

mustangdriver - I stand corrected - I learn something new all the time! Still, however, there are enough visible (& obvious) flaws in this model to the extent that I still stand by my opinion/assessment of this model. Like so many other Armour models, there are too many flaws that should not have been to exist for the price. Assuming you're going by the notion that "this is not a toy", sorry - they're asking WAY too much for this model for me to take the idea of buying one seriously. Unless you're one of those people that "just HAS to have EVERY Armour model ever produced - period...", I'd still definitely pass! Thanks for the heads-up on the floatplane type, however...!! - JY

Re: Franklin Mint Missouri -- anyone have it?

If you want a accurate ship model then paying a first class modeler to build you one is the way to go. You'll get superior quality for not much more than a Franklin Mint model will cost you. Plus you have an immensely greater selection of ships to choose from.

There are also numerous sites that offer ship models at a wide range of prices. Trick is getting high quality images to judge quality.

Or you can go smaller.....

These are NOT Armour models, but Franklin Mint. They have nothing to do with the original CDC-Armour company or the FM-Armour line of aircraft models (except to the extent that they come under the Franklin Mint umbrella).

As far as quality, I have seen Armour Addict's examplar up close and I personally thing if it can be had for around $150, that would be a fair deal. Yes, the model has its flaws, but it's not a bad representation overall.

I wouldn't pay anywhere close to MSRP for it, though.

Any photos of FRANKLIN MINT U.S.S. MISSOURI ?

I am very interested in bidding one in ebay. However, I can't find any close shot pictures of this 1:550 battleship and hard to judge if it is worth the price. Any one owns one and can share the thought and pictures?
Thanks
