Egad! Feel for ya buddy...

I'm taking all the seats out of the minivan tomorrow in preparation though -- you just give the word and I'll come "help" you out of that jam! I think you're only 2 hours or so away, I love road trips!

My canopy had a gap it......which you would notice at first sight.....2nd thing was
the whole green dragon to the cowl to the tail was all decal and it was already starting the chip...This plane just broke my lucky streak i had going not

Hey JP -- look at your other P-38s where the star insignia go on each of the tail booms -- these typically fall on a join line in the mold, and all look to be decals on my four FM '38s upon closer inspection. Yours? And was the gap in front of the windscreen where the cockpit piece is set into the fuselage? (All of my '38s have a noticeable bump there...)

Not surprised the big decals are stickers, though I am surprised they're peeling/chipping -- the art on my Dragon Lib is really well done, and looks like a mixture of sticker and paint...

Too bad, but I guess your experience just saved me $50-$60.

Re: FME747 U.S.A.A.F. 459 FS, 80 FG P-38 Lightning New For 2008!

So FM has 2008 issues with water slide decals? Why is it that no other company (that I am aware of) is releasing models with water slide decals? This gets to the heart of the point I attempted to make in another thread. I think there are certain industry standards (e.g. pad printing) that FM doesn't seem to give a flip about. And why should this matter? Well... JP, I am sure, had a certain expectation for this model, based on a set of standards we see with diecast manufacturers... FM's reliability is an issue. So, you place your order and hope for the best? What kind of a way is this to run a business?

Re: FME747 U.S.A.A.F. 459 FS, 80 FG P-38 Lightning New For 2008!

I understand your point Elmer, but ... I want a 1:48 P-38... I want it now... and I want it to have a high metal content. I'd prefer them to always be all pad-printed all the time. But heck, even corgi tosses stickers at us from time to time, there are no real standards in this hobby. If the water slides are done well, as with my FM Lib, I really don't mind. If they are cracking and peeling and tearing on join lines... that's a different story.

IXO also did this with their P-38...

Frankly I don't expect anyone else to serve up a Lightning in 1:48 anytime soon. So what's a 1:48 collector to do? Go without... ? Nah!

Send the lemons back, keep the... cherries?

Your answers are Yes it's the front windscreen...I have a Pudgy and it's not like that....Your right about the star & bar insignia it's a decal ( very well done one too)...I only have one FM P-38 now and thats the Pudgy and i have to say FM did alot better job on the Pudgy...The problem with this P-38 is that the Green dragon decal wasn't pressed firmly enough to the surface and some hard areas of the surface it started to lift,,,But the surface is not all that flat on that P-38 and i can see why some of it started to crack...nothing to stick too. Some of the decal on one side below the turbo the decal had a crease in it "pinch" around the landing gear area...I have to say this was a hard thing to do..It would of been alot better had they painted it at least...Like Spec Cast did to theirs.

Yeah, I have the Speccast version of this one and I just wish it was 1:48...

They do a great job with paint, accuracy....

Re: FME747 U.S.A.A.F. 459 FS, 80 FG P-38 Lightning New For 2008!

FYI: All Fm P-38s are definitley not created equally.

I just got the French Recon P-38 --- a FM release (not Armour) and it has stickers... must be from the early 2000's then. I'd be miffed if I didn't get it for $30 delivered.... AA wants $200 for the exact same model. It also has the cockpit gap... but I really like the history behind the model, and the scheme really adds some diversity to my mostly silver ETO display.
