Thanks for the "Elmer shots" Pappy! Much appreciated. I have been tempted by this one. How deep is air intake?

ya know, I knew that one was coming... (thanks for answering Fly!)

Well, I've been going back 'n forth between the pics of the model and the real deal and to be honest the fence rails look to be in the right spot to me...but what does appear to be a "glaring" flaw are those horizontal stabs.

Thumbs down Re: Pics: FM MiG-17 "Col. Tomb/Toon/Bugs Bunny"

[quote=PappyB;156956]Catalog number E201 (must be some UK overstock? ) -- got during the recent FM stock dump... Like it overall, though the actual pilot of the MiG is open for debate... did he exist or was Tomb/Toon all a big PR stunt? Who knows for sure, really, but some poor sap was flying this bird when it got shot down by Mr. Cunningham... was it Bugs? Maybe... regardless, here are the pics:

What REALLY irritates me also about these models is the fact that Armour's "research" seems to stem from restored MiG-15's & '17's flying over here - NOT ones that ACTUALLY flew with com-block countries. The external "drop" fuel tanks are of note in this regard - am I the only one who seems to see a rather close similarity between F-86 Sabre fuel tanks and these?? That's because they actually ARE...!!! These A/C are notorious for poor fuel consumption during flight - this stems primarily from the aircraft utilizing early engine technology regarding their compressors - these planes use engines with centrifugal-flow compressors as opposed to axial-flow compressors - very poor compression ratios. As a result, external fuel tanks are a must - even for relatively short flights. However, these planes used "slipper" type tanks when they were in actual service. These "F-86" type tanks were installed over here as original tanks are practically non-existant - few have survived that can still be used.
Armour "does it" again... - JY
