Re: SBD-1 Marine Dauntless review

Not sure if they can correct a couple of the issues with the FM PBY, but overall it does make for a good looking huge model. They definitely did a nice job on the beaching gear, which should make easy to display with the rest of your growing pre war collection.

Yeah the incorrect blisters and nose turret are quite obvious. I may get it and fix it up with Monogram's kit... but why should I have too?

Re: SBD-1 Marine Dauntless review

A closed cockpit is rare on FM Dauntlesses -

I have only 2: white 39 and the prewar SBD-1. The other 5 are open but how can you beat the .30 cal MG sticking out?

.

Thanks Art and I hear you on the MGs.

But remember, these Marine birds probably spent a lot of time with the guns stowed
(this model doesn't even include them!)

I enjoy closed canopies on all my models, just a personal choice.
I don't want the interiors getting dusty, and I like the streamlined look.

Ara, looks like me & you share exactly the same opinion on the 'Greenhouse' canopy 'outlook'........

I'd feel the same way, even on a Westland Lysander/Fairy Battle, or a Curtiss SBD-Helldiver

Though it admittedly DOES look good on the Dauntless (Wartime versions)

BTW, what's your opinion on (what you can see of) the "Operation-Torch" 1/48th SBD that I posted in my last post on this thread ???? (post No.4).

You're 'cuppa-tea', or not ?????????

Would YOU buy it, to 'Bolster' your USN collection ??????????

Re: SBD-1 Marine Dauntless review

WOW Ara! Terrific pics and review... I enjoyed this post very much, thank you! I will admit, it is a lovely model... I could even live with the recessed screws on this one, and perhaps remove the gear well screws, fill in the holes.

My pre-war naval aircraft collection is also growing; I love the look of your display. I am getting so sick and tired waiting for my Lexington F2A to ship. I called the vendor a week ago and he promised to ship... still nothing. If it hasn't shipped by Tuesday, I am canceling with him and ordering from another... before they are all gone.

Hi Hornchurch,

I'd love to see more pics of your Torch SBD; the pic you posted is begging for more shots...

My interest in the Dauntless is inception thru Midway (June 1942), so my next Dauntless will most likely be a Coral Sea version. Operation Torch SBDs look cool, though! Feel free to post them here. I'd also like a gander at yer 1/48 F6Fs.

Re: SBD-1 Marine Dauntless review

WOW Ara! Terrific pics and review...

Thanks Elmer. I'm going to reshoot the prewar display with an additional plane and will post the pic soon.

Sorry to hear about the delay on your Buffalo! I too waited 2 months for mine to come in, but boy are they worth it. The slogan for diecast should be "Best get what you like while you can" and with the hobby changing, the opportunity to buy at a good price should be acted upon. I hope your order comes in soon; have you done business with this vendor in the past?

Thanks AA, it's always good to hear from the king of 1/48 himself.

If you can get hold of Revell-Monogram Pro Modeler PBY-5A kit, you might just be able to fix up the nose turret. The kit contains three clear nose turrets, one standard open, one standard closed and the twin Eye Ball turret mount. Either of the first two would work, and you would still have a nice model to build. To be honest, I am not so sure that the blister positions have a real shot at being corrected.

Yes. I am sure he will take care of me. But he has had them in stock for going on two weeks now! My patience is obviously wearing.

I've got a extra one on hand. Let me know if you cancel.
