| aikens "retired" FM listings Did anyone happen to see all the models that are now listed as "retired"? The list is quit extensive and I suggest buying them now while the prices on some are still relatively cheap. | |||||||||||||

| Re: aikens "retired" FM listings Yeah, I use them as a resource to track that -- put they jack their prices up on the retired stuff pretty quickly, even higher than Perrys in many cases. But from the looks of things, prices aren't going anywhere but up on these things so the get 'em while you can is still quite valid... that's my excuse anyways. How come the wife doesn't buy it? | |||||||||||||

| Re: aikens "retired" FM listings There prices did do a bit of a jump. I only have three FM models and most I paid for one was $45.00, starting to feel much better about those purchases. | |||||||||||||

Das Boot - by retired, do we mean "those colour-schemes" OR "the moulds themselves; in general" ?????????? Would LOVE to know how you guys 'Stateside' are reacting to these "bargains" = are they being 'snapped-up' OR Ignored ??????? General concensus/vibe I've picked up over here in the UK, is that folks would rather tend to "Slag them off" than delve into any potential bargains - not helped by Franklin-Mint's lack of pictures of the model(s) themselves. Understandably, folks over here are giving 'Orange-Hurricanes' & the (poor, I'm told ?) Mosquito's a very wide berth.........yet there are a few others - that are an absolute steal, pricewise & decent quality a/c...... probably being overlooked, because of the "F.M are crap" brigade, who, stupidly, tar ALL 'F.M's a/c with the same brush. $30 USD for an SBD seems like a bargain over here...... curious to know what price they GENERALLY go for on "the other" side of the Atlantic (various outlets, rather than ONE), whilst this "Discounting" continues ????????

| Re: aikens "retired" FM listings
Its not a retired mold but a certain paint scheme. If I recall looking on Aikens page a few days ago almost all of the Hurricane's were being retired. I wonder what FM is planning to do here? Retire the mold in the future or come up with a bunch of new paint schemes. As far as I can see there are no Hurricane's coming out in 08. As far as FM Bargains. FM was dumping old stock to dealers for as little as $11 dollars for a SBD.

| Re: aikens "retired" FM listings
Retired means the schemes not the molds -- most of the bargains are the stuff that ain't selling, so I haven't got too excited about 'em, though there were a couple good 'uns I jumped on recently (a p-47 and Mig-17). The SBDs generally go anywhere from $45-90 (FM stuff is priced all over the map it seems, which is strange considering they are supposed to have the same price everywhwere I think... but hunting definitely pays off). There have been a few SBDs in the bargain bins lately, amazingly one of the best IMHO -- the Ace of Spades. I think $30-45 for any particulary FM model -- if you like it -- is a good deal. I recently got a Dragon and His Tail Lib at a "going out of biz" sale for $75, less a trade I worked my "out of pocket" was $30 -- well worth it Well worth it for the $75... at the MSRP of $120-165 I'm not so sure.

Pappy, Glad you're putting us (over here) in the picture.....& I'll bet Armour-Addict in Germany will be pleased (?) I know that although I've spent a helluva-lot, recently, it's been worth it !!!!!!!!!!!! I believe that "Ace Of Spades" version you speak of, is B.932 with the 'Bomb-tally' on the cockpit-port-side ???????? That's the one I've got next to me now, in a Triple-Tone (Dk Blue/Intermediate Blue/Insignia White) colour scheme, with the "Wavy"-Demarcation-Line between the Dk & Intermediate Blue(s) ??????? If so, I gave just £14.95 for that ($30 USD), so it sounds like a Major-Bargain.......... Same goes for the "Operation-Torch" SBD , B.632, in the much lighter single Blue/Grey (Also just £14.95) !!!!!!!!!! I virtually cleared the shop outta F.6-F Hellcats, for the same money.......in about 4 - 5 versions = RESULT !!!!!!!! The B.25's are a bargain, though I concentrated on the USN stuff 1st Be nice if more folks on this forum posted some pix of their (better) CDC-Armour/F.M aircraft..... .......... just like Ara did with his 1/48th Liberator !!!!!
