Re: aikens "retired" FM listings

Normally I would not be tempted to pick up one of the FM Dauntless models, but if I came across one for $11.00,,,, might not be to hard of a choice.

Re: aikens "retired" FM listings

I believe that "Ace Of Spades" version you speak of, is B.932 with the 'Bomb-tally' on the cockpit-port-side ????????

That's the one I've got next to me now, in a Triple-Tone (Dk Blue/Intermediate Blue/Insignia White) colour scheme, with the "Wavy"-Demarcation-Line between the Dk & Intermediate Blue(s) ???????!!!!![/quote]

Ace of spades is this one: Photo Album

It completed 50 missions...

You can see some (old) pics of it, along with most of my FM collection (aside from new additions I need to shoot) here, if you wish:

Oh, and my jets, or most of 'em, are here:

Thanks for posting the links, Pappy.

Yes, that's the one I mentioned........the "Ace Of Spades" version.

Funny enough, in the pictures on that link, that particular "Spades" SBD looks rather 'dust-laden' in the photographs, not to mention what initially looks like a very slight 'shade' discrepancy in the Dk.Blue, where the Cowling meets the Fuselage !!!!!!!!

Mine ain't been out the box yet, but is 100% 'Mint', with the Dk.Blue appearing VERY Dark & 100% matched 'tween Cowling & Cockpit.

One-day soon, I'll HAVE to buy a Digital-Camera (even a cheap one), & get snapping.........

The "Operation-Torch" SBD looks even better still = just SUPERB !!!!!!!!!!! (& silly money)

The 'F.M.' SBD has GOT TO BE (just-about) one of the most criminally 'Underrated' die-cast a/c on sale........

Loved the "Tokyo-Raider" B.25 Mitchell - very, very nice looking, if plain.

The F.4's, well, I won't discuss them, as the T.O.114 painted ('Nam) F.4 looks nice - n' I'll get jealous ! LOL !!!!!!!

I know you got rid of your Boyington F.4-U , but i think I picked up the best one they do, in "Daisy-Jane" B.216

Wish someone could show some pix, so you guys can see just how REALLY nice that particular one is

Yeah, those are OLD OLD photos from when I first started the site and barely knew how my camera worked -- the colors are a bit off due to the excessive dust (apparently I hadn't discovered air cans back then or brushes, either ) and my photo technique at the time. The colors on the cowl and fuselage do indeed match on the model and I don't quite see how they don't in the pics -- but the ligth blue is defintely not accurately represented in those pics. I'll do a reshoot when I get my new lamp -- I think it's time to get those fuglies updated The colors on the model do indeed look correct..

As for Pappy's ride, well, I might find myself reacquring that one, as I'm considering getting out of 1:72 (fighters at least) and selling off that part of my collection. Though, I might just try to stay happy with my Speccast version...

Re: aikens "retired" FM listings

Why is it that everything all of a sudden seems to become more valuable when they retire except for people?

LOL...so true Skunky.

Re: aikens "retired" FM listings

I was just looking again at some of the prices at Aikens. Boy, I think he's a little greedy with some of the retired pieces. I'm surprised with those sort of prices that he has any models that are are sold out.

YES... I have the prewar SBD-1, and it is very nice indeed. All it needs is a correct top cowling scoop (it's larger on the actual -1 version but the model doesn't reflect this discerning feature).
