Another Erich Hartmann Bf 109

Two Bf 109s in one day, not to bad. Well I just found that the UPS had dropped of a box, and in it was a FM BF 109G-6. This will be my third FM model and now I have two of their Erich Hartmann Bf 109s. This one is their Bf 109G-6 "Yellow I" (Bf 109 that came earlier was the Dragon 109 with same markings). The model has the same glitches associated with FM Bf 109s, but heck if you want Erich Hartmann version, there are not that many options. I am planning on picking up the FM Bf 109G-4/R-6 Hartmann model and that should pretty much cover all the available models done with Erich Hartmanns markings. I know FM models catch their fair share of flak, but it does not look to bad sitting on the shelf (I did take the dihedral out of the horizontal stabilizer after I took the pictures.).

Re: ANY 'Franklin-Mint' Bf 109

Funny enough Cruv', during my (very) recent (& extensive) 'Blitz' on U.S.Navy planes from 'F.M.' (F.6-F Hellcats in particular) I was in the model-warehouse looking at other 'FM' discounted-stuff, including B.25 Mitchells........

One plane that I'd 'Earmarked' to look at, was a complete-unknown, in terms of accuracy & quality - though, as an experienced a/c enthusiast & ('Ex) 'model-maker, I knew full well whether at first glance, I'd like, or dislike the 'product'

That was the Franklin-Mint Me.109 - same 'mould' as your bird - just different markings (& same/similar RLM 74/75/76 splinter/mottle)

THE ITALIAN Me.109-G.6, also with ventral-wing-cannon-'Gondolas'

First off - I was very, very impressed by the paint & it's execution - THAT , plus the way the 'Fascist' Italian-markings had been 'portrayed' & executed, (with the overpainted 'Wing-Balkankreuz', etc)

Then, 'IT' caught my eye - just my opinion, no-one else's....... & with ALL the 'Buchon's & REAL Me.109's I'd seen regularly, in past years, at close-hand, both in the (various) museums & flying real close to me ('Black-6' & 'Hannes-Dittes' DB.engined B'std) 'IT' registered & stopped me in my tracks, from buying what looked like a right-Bargain.........

The Tail-planes which appear set just too-'High' for my liking, spoiling an otherwise nice looking model - & thereby 'relegating' it to the 'F.M.' "also-ran" category......(from my perspective)

Hey, I'm not just 'nit-picking' here - & I STILL haven't 'cracked-open' the 'Tape-measure', "Anorak/Rivet-counter" stylee !!!!!!!!!

Within Days, I also came across one of our 'Erstwhile'-regulars, who'd put out a post - highlighting & commenting on EXACTLY the same thing !!!!!!!! - & as I (well) 'Respect' his opinion as an ('Ex' or Current='not-sure-which' ?) fellow IPMS-member, I felt glad that I HADN'T given-in to Temptation & the lovely-paint Job & more unusual-markings........(NO, IT AIN'T 'TANK-NUT', LOL).

The depth/Angle of windshield was ALSO pointed out - & I (also) believe he's "spot-on" with that 'observation' too........

So, I guess if I WERE to pick-up any more '109's (unlikely), they'd most probably be the Corgi 1/32nd scale versions........

Anyone-else feel this way, towards the 'F.M' '109's ???????? -OR- are you guys 'content' with 'em ???????

Re: Another Erich Hartmann Bf 109

Yep, all you mentioned is what I just simply referred to as (same glitches associated with FM Bf 109s). Only problem is that if you want to pick up a Bf 109 in Erich Harmann's livery, well you are kind of limited. The only other diecast companies that I know that have made Bf 109s in Hartmann's paint schemes are Franklin Mint, Dragon, Matchbox and Corgi. I have the Dragon one (Came in today), have the Matchbox one too, and have two of the Franklin Mint ones. So until some of the other companies put something out, that is what you have to work with. I would love to have one in Hartmann's paint scheme by Corgi, but every place I have checked it is sold out. So you just have to work with what is available.

May suprise some, but when I was Married & living in London (at the edge of RAF Hornchurch itself)
I decorated/painted up our main Back-Bedroom, to match my most expensive 'Robert-Taylor-print' (which took pride of place, on the main-wall, in an 1930's OLD-oak frame, my Dad rescued from the 'Civic-Centre' Council office where he worked !).

It was "Knights-Cross", which depicts Hartmann's "Yellow-1" flying in an Early-Evening sky, shooting down an IL-2 Stormovik.

My Mother bought it (back in '89) as an investment (she paid £165 for the print alone........!)

Dad sorted the frame, & Wife, (suprisingly), ACTUALLY congratulated me on my choice of colour co-ordination, twixt 'Wall & Hartmann-signed print" my 'Luftwaffe-IPMS kit building mates, just came round & stared & salivated, whilst Wife would poke fun at 'em, calling 'em "saddo's"

Would have been nice to find a Die-cast in "Yellow-One" to match, but sadly, since moving & Divorce, said print sits forlornly in a spare bedroom at my Folks place 7 miles away !!!!!!!

Reading this thread & Cruver's previous post, set me thinking just how (relatively) Limited, Corgi's 1/32 schemes are - I'M NOT SURE ON THE 'F.M.' CHOICES, BUT THEY SEEM MORE VARIED ??????? (though I like the 'Wilde-Sau' Corgi 1/32 !!!!!!)

So far, my ONLY Bf.109 in Die-Cast, remains the "Barkhorn" '109, which I purchased along with 'Grumpy' & 'Flash's "QV*H" as a pair !!!!!!!!

I am not sure how limited the Corgi Hartmann piece was, but have definitely had no success so far in finding one. I do have two Robert Taylors though, I have Swan Song and The Abbeville Boys. Picked up both similarly framed for $400 back in 2003.

Sounds like you done well for yourself there then !!!!!!!!!

I also have a (Mint) copy of "Duel Of Eagles" signed by Bader & Galland, which, to be honest, I only ever kept because of the signatures........( & CERTAINLY-NOT because I like the picture/print, LOL !!!!!!!)

The only other "Taylor" print I've (Honestly) ever hankered for, was the one with the NMF & 'Red-Cowled' B.24's flying at Ultra-Low-Level over an English South-Coast 'Port' at Sunset............ (Quite simply, superb !!!!!!!!!!!)

can't remember the name of it though, sadly ??????????????????????

Re: Another Erich Hartmann Bf 109

I have that same Hartmann 109, but in 1/24 scale....

I think Perry's had the Corgi Hartmann 109, but you'll pay a pretty penny for it if they do..
