Question about Dragon and His Tail Lib...

Anyone with good research or photos/profiles of the "real deal". Just got this "Bombzilla" from FM and I do like it... mostly for the sheer "wow" factor. But it's actually made quite well with no obvious QA issues and none of the ugly gaps that plague the Corgi version.

It has the dragon artwork on both sides of the fuselage, whereas Corgi only has it on the right side.... all the pics/art I've managed to find show the plane from this side... did the real deal have it on both sides?

I know the Collings Foundation only had it on one side, too, but had thought this might be to include all the sponsors on the other side........

Aces High BB - Historical Accuracy of Skins

This thread has someone who claimed to have flown the collings version and talked with the crew of the real deal -- he says the artwork shoudl be on one side, which I guess makes sense as it is hard to imagine them taking the time to paint something that elaborate on both sides of a huge plane like that in the middle of a war!

Strange too as I read posts saying the bird crashed before returning to the states and was totalled, and another saying it returned to the states only to be scrapped immediately at the boneyards.... lots of contradicting info out there on this bird and, apparently, no photos of the left side....

Well said, Papp'

It's about time those many folks who bought (or would consider buying) Corgi's 1/72 'NOSE-TURRETED' B.24 realise that the F.M. version is the (MUCH) better offering, in that respect.

The nose joint on Corgi's 'nose-turreted' B.24 ('H' or 'J' variant) is hideous, with the fuselage-join nothing to "shout-about" either........

AFAIK, I'm 99% certain that I read somewhere that "The Dragon &..." DID actually end up, in a scrapyard along with numerous others, & that the 'bone-yard' crews had a 'soft-spot' for 'that' particular B.24, purely beacuse of the artwork, so therefore didn't exactly 'Rush' to scrap it (though, apparently, it was, eventually)

I see your 'Logic' in the "only one side" artwork issue - I'd imagine that's right ?

Right but what I need is a photo of the other side This side it seems both Corgi and FM agree had the art -- oh this is to show it at teh scrapyard, not to answer the art q... sorry, I blame it on my post superbowl malaise...

short-sighted morons that scrapped this one...

Re: Question about Dragon and His Tail Lib...

I would be amazed if the same nose art was painted on both sides. What would be the point - symmetry?

well, if the point of the over-the-top art was to somehow intimidate the enemy, I could see reason for it -- or just to make it that much cooler a ride But I suspect FM is wrong and the Pooch is right, there must be a reason all the pics of the real deal only show the right side.....

Re: Question about Dragon and His Tail Lib...

...sorry Pappy, but I think that is the case. Besides, even if it were painted on both sides, it would be hard to make it identical - right?

Heck yeah...with all the paint it had to have taken to apply that nose(fuselage) art, they woulda had to duplicate it on the other side just to keep the damn thing in trim!
