Thumbs down New Armour Releases for 2008

Well, I'm happy and angry at the same time, if that's possible!!

First, happy because Armour has released the British FGR.2 "Alcock & Brown" 1919 Atlantic Crossing Commemorative Phantom.
Angry because they used the GE J-79 turbojet exhaust nozzles as opposed to the correct RR Spey turbofan nozzles - BIG difference!! The real British FGR.2 (RAF) Phantom utilized the same engines as the FG-1 for the Royal Navy. Such a simple & CHEAP, and yet such a noticable thing! Ironically enough, it's also the one thing they actually managed to "get right" on the out-of-production 2002 RN 892 Sqn. (B11B459) FG.1 Phantom (see attached pix)... - You'd think these idiots would learn after awhile...!! -

I'm also tickled to see another Zero floatplane (B11E780) in IJN Navy colors.
Finally, the (B11E754) California Boomerang F-86 is introduced - that looks like a nice one!!

PS: You'll also notice that their new "Old Crow" P-51 ("B" - ? HA! What a friggin' joke this one is...!!) Mustang utilizes a bubble canopy and a "D" model upper fuselage deck as opposed to the correct "razorback" form... -

I like the Seafire but will be surprised if it comes with a tail hook.

Re: New Armour Releases for 2008

I have their first Rufe float plane, and wouldn't mind picking up another.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Cruver Collector - AMEN! Inspite of the huge and rather glaring screw holes underneath the main float assembly, it is a really nice model - while I'm not a huge WWII aircraft fan, per se' (aside from the really cool planes like the F-8 Bearcat & the little-known Supermarine Spiteful, along with later versions of the Spitfire with RR Griffon engines, etc; etc.); nevertheless, as a much-accomplished seaplane pilot, I have always thought highly of floatplane versions of some of the more popular fighter types - their reduced performance with floats attached not withstanding. I'd LOVE to see Armour/FM do a floatplane version of the WWII C-47 (DC-3). While not having seen action; there were actually a few made and flight-tested!! Quite an amazing sight!! Wonder what the floats for a 747 would look like...?? - JY

That would make for a real neat model.

I would really like to see someone make that Navy Bearcat...
It's so long overdue as well.

George Preddy was......Just the greatest fighter pilot who ever squinted through a gunsight.
He was a complete fighter pilot.......Colonel John C. Meyer Deputy Commander of the 352nd.

Bearcat would be a good one. Kind of a small fighter and would look good in 1/48th scale.

Cruver Collector - Yessir!! The F8F Bearcat (or twin-engined Tigercat, as well!!!) would make a most interesting 1/48th scale fighter from Armour/FM!! Hell, I'd buy two or three of the bloody things if they "got it right" (not holding my breath, there...)!! While they arrived just a wee bit too late to see any action in WWII; nevertheless, next to the P-51 Mustang, they're still one of the more widely-seen prop-driven fighters left around; also, their performance is legendary - specifically, their "Time-to-Climb" record (for a reciprocating-engine, propellor-driven aircraft) still stands, I believe. Even stock Bearcats equipped with the original P&W R-2800-32W radial engines were incredible machines!! Yup, it would make for one fantastic model, for sure!! - JY
