Re: New 2008 FM shown at Aikens

Yep, Ara, she may be a big ol'-Girl, but your pix show just WHY she's an ATTRACTIVE BIG OL' GIRL !!!!!!!!!!!

That's the same one I bought a few weeks back & I figured I wouldn't be buying anymore 'F.M.' stuff anytime soon.

It LOOKS like a great rendition of a B.24 & that colour-scheme stands out !

I've always been attracted to the Coastal-Command colours anyway, but living next to the very bases that made the B.24 such an 8th A.F. legend gives me an automatic bias..........

Wartime WW.II USAAF bases literally 'saturate' this part of East-Anglia & it's such a shame that 8th Air Force B.24's are sorely under-represented, as numerous guys have mentioned.......

personally, I'd choose the Franklin Mint B.24 over the Corgi one, with it's ill-fitting nose EVERY TIME .

Trouble is, it's a REAL BEAST , in terms of sheer-size & wingspan !

Ara, post some more pix, Guy ?

OK Hornchurch my friend, here are some pix of the bird we love. I've posted these at the sister site (At your neck of the woods) but not here so I'm not in violation of any rules (that I know of). Enjoy the big beast that served the Allied cause so well.

So nice! She's being taken out of storage this Sunday for a Superbowl party. A diecast of this size is ridiculously unmanageable, but she tasks me!

I'm really surprised that FM/A decided to produce a PBY before an Avenger or Helldiver to go with their excellent Devastator, Hellcat, and Wildcat combo (Corsair - not so good).

Yes, we are missing the darn Avenger! That would have a 13.5 inch wingspan so it would look big compared to other 1/48...............next we need the Kingfisher.

Re: New 2008 FM shown at Aikens

I'm suprised they did a Catalina considering the wing span of that aircraft in 1/48. I haven't picked up the 1/72 Corgi one yet because I'm not sure where to put it. But must say if the FM mould is OK and the price acceptable I'd lean toward them because I really want a pre-war paint scheme.

I wonder if the blue one will have landing gear, as it does say PBY-5A

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Thanks Ara - thanx ESPECIALLY for posting 'em over here, on M.H.II, as I really do believe more people need to see just how nice the 'F.M.' B.24 really is.........

I fear so many 'F.M.' planes just get typecast as 'non-starters', or 'also-rans' - merely because there are a few 'Howlers' in the range, so they (the GOOD ones) often get 'tarred & feathered' with the same (metaphorical) brush.

It's a little ironic that as I sit here with my 5 x 1/48th F.6-F's I purchased yesterday afternoon, that I'm about to comment on the relative size of your Royal-Navy F.6-F compared alongside the Coastal-command B.24 on your table........
Must admit, it looks MASSIVE..... they both do, but then I guess they're just good ol' solidly-built U.S. Warbirds (i.e. tough)

When I was in the warehouse yesterday, the only F.6-F that I saw that I didn't like (guess cause the colour-scheme - a French-Aeronavale Hellcat in a strange-ish hint of gloss blue)

I bought the last intact James Flatley 'CAG' - "00", some 'Red' Shirley 'sharkmouth's & the "Cat O'nines (McWorther), as well as a Corsair I hadn't seen/didn't know of (B.216) & two "Op'-Torch" SBD's.
I love 'em all & very impressed with each & every one of 'em !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I presume maybe these moulds will be given a new (fresh) paint scheme in future times ???, as they're good representations of type.

For your sake Ara, I really hope your Superbowl-guests just admire - & choose NOT to pull that lovely B.24 about, or (worse still) re-decorate it in Mustard, Punch, Ketchup or Bud' (etc) ?..........

Back on a more serious note......
The omission of a few decent choice-schemed 8th AirForce 'F.M.' B.24's (Bombers, rather then assembly-ships) does seem strange to me........ any thoughts on that one guys ?

[quote=PappyB;148421]And, is that a razorback P-47 I see, too.. . cool scheme even... hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Though it's called a P-47D Razorback... wonder if it's just the art for the Razorback, and it will be the same D-model bubbletop mold?

Pappy - Of course!! Look what these idiots did with the "Old Crow" P-51 Mustang??? It's supposed to be a "B" model - it's LISTED as a "B" model... - But guess what you ACTUALLY get... - yup, a "D"... - JY ....................!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 2008 FM Listings are now under "Catalog Additions" at the Flying Mule as well. The picture quality makes them a little easier to see than at Aikens.

Ara, now that is a big beasty. Not sure if I am ready to invest in one that big, definitely would have to get some more shelf space. Nice looking addition though.
