Re: New 2008 FM shown at Aikens

Yes, the Gramper B-24 was a dog of a seller. But, the new marshalling B-24 appears a bit more palitable (sp?) with the dots on the wings. Gramper was bit sparse and not a good representation for the type. Oh, and AA, love the barf icon.

Yup!

Palatable: Acceptable or agreeable to the mind or sensibilities

I recently ordered two B-24. I'll make up my mind once they arrive at my place. And no, Gramper ain't one of them.

Me, too.

Re: New 2008 FM shown at Aikens

And, is that a razorback P-47 I see, too.. . cool scheme even... hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Though it's called a P-47D Razorback... wonder if it's just the art for the Razorback, and it will be the same D-model bubbletop mold?

That new Rufe looks nice, too...

What! I didn't see that. I wonder what this will mean for any plans EI has/had for a Razorback T-Bolt. If FM/A dumps a lot of these on the market, I bet all bets for an EI T-Bolt are off.

Yup, a razorback... I'll be danged! I was hoping to spot signs that this is a new mold, but the pictures are pretty poor. The fuselage would have to be a new mold... wouldn't it? Oh please, FM... don't screw the pooch on this one, like you did on the P-51B/C!

...also with the shark's mouth on the nose.

Gramper must have been somewhat significant; I say this because the tower/nissen hut at the museum at Wright Patterson has/had a diorama with the Little Gramper being featured rather prominently.....

Re: New 2008 FM shown at Aikens

just my 2 cents...

Besides, the retailers I know tell me the first "interesting" colored B-24 wasn't selling THAT well.

From a strictly financial point of view this makes me wonder why on earth they do a second?!

Maybe they figured Lil' Gramper wasn't ugly enough?

Good one Pappy!

Maybe they want to enter the annual "Most ugly diecast of the year" contest.

I think they'd stand a good chance of winning!

Re: New 2008 FM shown at Aikens

The PBY is a new mold I think. As far as the new FW-190 goes, it is the same as the 21st C. one. The 262 is the same as Corgi and so is the P-38. The B-25 is a rehashed Crab 2nd... HM has the same Wildcat. Same planes, new scale.

Is this a little industrial espionage or just luck? With the possible exception of the P-38 there is nothing there for me.

Well, if indeed that "Fearless Dick" is a razorback there's another new mold -- don't see how they can just tweak the bubbletop to make it, though I wouldn't put it past FM to try Anyone have any intel on this? Is it just a misprint -- or are they just using the razorback profile art because that's what they had on hand... and it will be that scheme but on a bubbletop???

I'd much rather see a razorback from EI first... or at least, too...

Now, back to you. Please don't buy an FM B-24. You will hate it.

Leave the FM B-24 lovin' to me. {bird icon}

Funny enough boys, I've just got home from a trip to buy the 5 x F.6-F's, 2 x SBD's & an F.4-U (ALL 'reduced' 'F.M.') which are sitting next to me now, on the table.......
& in doing so, drove right-past 'Little Gramper's' own air-base (North-Pickenham) less than an hour ago !!!!!!!!

Ironic, as the shop is selling them @ knocked down price - perhaps understandable, as the scheme is strange, however historically interesting (sadly, the base is now a 'wind-turbine' farm !).

I DID toy with the Idea of getting one & spraying it up in Olive-Drab/Grey, but the thought of masking off that 'Red-Panelled-nose' (Yikes)

'Rage In Heaven" would have been the best choice (most attractive) assembly-ship, though you'd think a 'standard' 8th A.F. bomber would sell better ?

Ara, steady on guy, - I (also) bought an 'F.M' B.24 this year (2008 !) & have to admit, it's better than the Corgi 1/72 equiv' (no 'nasty' nose-join)........ so I'm def' a confirmed fan........(mine's the Coastal Command equiv' = very nice !).

There are too many around that are willing to 'dismiss' the 'F.M.' B.24 without having (really) seen it .

Hey, I just snagged one myself -- curiosity got the best of me My pal Black6 has already coined it "Bombzilla" -- he was "nice" enough to pick it up for me at a local clearance sale and I've yet to see it personally...

This might be the model that puts the Mrs. "over the edge" we shall see!

Yeah, Pappy, I am thinking the same thing. My bet is they join existing wings and horizonatal stabs molds to a new fuselage mold. May work, ok, but I would prefer updated, detailed wings. If it turns out as well as the Wildcat mold, then I will be excited. The first livery choice is outstanding. But... if it turns out as poor as the P-51B/C mold, AND, if EI cancels its plans for a T-Bolt... well then, I will have to really start hating FM/A.

Edit: I just noticed that the new P-51 (Old Crow) for 2008 is listed as a B model, when, in fact, the picture is a D model. What gives? Which is it? B or D? Who screwed up? Aikens or FM/A? Could it be that FM/A found a picture of a "Fearless Dick" Razorback and published it, with no intention of releasing a Razorback? Yet, Aikens lists the description as a Razorback.
