MIG-17 size vs.F-4J Phantom

I always knew that the MiG was a small plane but was surprised at how small it was in comparison to the Phantom. I recently got the NVA MiG and put it with the Robin Olds "MiG Killer" and it looked like a midget plane.

Re: MIG-17 size vs.F-4J Phantom

Yeah that is right. The Mig is very small when sitting next to an F-4. THe NMUSAF has several F-4's and several Mig's. In the Vietnam building we have Robin Olds' Scat F-4 next to a Mig 17. The F-4 is much larger. Over at the MAPS Air Museum the Mig 15 sits between the F-4 and F-14. Talk about being dwarfed.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Can you get any quality shots of Scat and the MiG?

You don't realize how big the differences in size is between various aircraft until you sit them side by side in diecast.

Im still suprised how big a F14 is compared to a MIG-21. Even my EE Lighting is larger than the the MIG!

Re: MIG-17 size vs.F-4J Phantom

Here are some pics from the NMUSAF Let me find the ones from MAPS. And Yes this is the real Scat F-4! THe Mig at the far right is in the Korean War section. It is the same Mig that defected to the U.S. base and then was given to Wright Field for flight evaluation. Many famous test pilots flew it including Gen. Yeager.

Here are some taken at the MAPS Air Museum where you can climb in and sit in the Mig.

Great pictures, thanks. Wish Franklin had that load-out on their version of Scat. Also, on the Franklin that little unit insignia (or whatever it is) is in blue.

Re: MIG-17 size vs.F-4J Phantom

Also noticed that the MiG is painted to represent the one supposedly flown by Col. Toon/Tomb, is that mentioned on the board in front of the MiG?

Re: MIG-17 size vs.F-4J Phantom

I thought the real SCAT was lost after Olds left the theater.
