Question Re: New Release RAAF Mirage III

Do my eyes play tricks on me or does the intakes look a little on the small side?

Thumbs up Re: New Release RAAF Mirage III

WOW! It does look like FM did fixed that hideous geometry problem, doesn't it? Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, it does look about right. However, if FM decides to do some Israeli birds, then they may have to increase the length at the bottom end of the front rudder to properly show that additional 'filet' area (see pic below). In addition to that, study the engine housing area of the Israeli Mirage. Do you notice the extended apendage area of the aft fuselage? It's very prominent! You think FM will listen some more and do a complete retool of this diecast to reflect a combat a/c in Israeli service? One would hope so....
I'm with you for an Isreali scheme both bare-metal and desert camo!

Now that is one very cool looking model!

Thanks for the pics! They made my day! Looking at the FM catalog Israeli Mirage pics, I thought we would be getting another hump-back job. Franklin Mint, your stock is rising. Now if they just get the Israeli F-15 right (right now it looks like a desert-camo F-15C, vice a 2-seat). Fingers crossed...

You're right, ZS-VAN, they are a bit too small. But compared to the aircraft spine problem of the earlier releases, that's nothing.

Also, the intake positioning (lined-up with rear edge of canopy) is correct for the Aussie Mirage and any E model, but is incorrect for the C model (which the Israeli flew). C model intakes are lined up about 2/3 of the way to the rear underneath the canopy, as in the picture of that nice model posted by Fly, though that one seems to have the intakes just a tad too much forward: compare to picture of the actual jet also provided by Fly).

But with the corrected spine, at least I can rank the model as "acceptable" despite its flaws.

Thanks FVD, I picked on the positioning of the intakes as well, the SAAF operated AZs & CZs mostly. (Z being for South Africa for those wonering) Nice to have more clarity, appreciated. It does look as if FM may be able to change the intakes. Can the guys who have the Mirage III tell us whether the intakes are plastic? I guess I could live with it now that they've fixed the spine. I'll wait to see what the other models look like though. I'd have liked an Israeli one, enough aces to choose from. Not be I'm told. Really a misssed opportunity.
