Re: How many Collection Armour's you got?

Howdy all! I have just recently ventured into FM 1/48 planes. I have just gotten an F-15 Eagle, with the MiG-29 and UK Desert Storm Tornado on the way. Thinking of getting the USMC Harrier, Wolfpack Tomcat and A-10 Warthog...so not more than 6 for me.

Re: How many Collection Armour's you got?

I always tried to stay away from armour/franklin mint because of the size of these things....but then I encoutered a seller on ebay who had them for bargain prices (f.i. the B-17 and B-24 cost less than a corgi 1/72 spitfire!) and low shipping costs to the Netherlands......so now I have a C-47 and a B-25, with a B-17, B-24, B-26 and 5 B-25's on the way. I like them, but am not planning to buy jets or WW2 fighter planes.

The only problem I have now is finding space.....

Re: How many Collection Armour's you got?

I have 17 FM. WWII prop planes. They do lack the detail but I have picked them up for very reasonable prices over the last 2 years. I keep them in a display case so the lack of detail is not so evident since they are viewed from about 2 ft. min. Now if I were to take them out and fondle them like some members that could be a problem but I was raised to be a proper boy.

I just picked up a JU-52 and 111 and they do look impressive in the display case. I paid around $56 for each shipped so if I decide to get rid of them I can always scrape them and get that much from a scrape dealer with the price metal is going for now.

I rotate a few planes in my cube at work and if I can get a B24 or 17 for a reasonable price I may also pick up one of them. I only display items that if damaged or disappear will not cause me great pain. With over a 2 ft wing span for these planes they would look impressive and I do have a spot of one of these at my cube. I would also not worry about it disappearing since it would be hard to hide it under a coat as you were walking out the door.

Re: How many Collection Armour's you got?

I only have 1 FM and that's the A6M2-N Float Plane Zero. Was looking at it for a long time but was not sure, as I had a FM Mossie and it was the biggest waste of zinc ever IMHO, almost as bad as the IXO version. Took 4 tries on E-Bay to sell the thing, and finally sold it at a loss, was ready to give it to my then 9 year old as a toy. The Zero isn't to bad, one major vault with it is FM gave it a weathered paint job on the plane it self but the float are all shinny new looking. It does look good sitting along side my Marushin Willow Float Plane though. Not sure if I will purchase anymore FM products as nothing really catches my eye and 1/72 is my main scale.

I have the first Rufe the folks at FM put out and kind of like it. Need to get the Marushin Willow on floats, from pictures I have seen it is a sharp looking model.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: How many Collection Armour's you got?

I have 27 of these models, but haven't bought one in years due to the generally low quality, especially the lack of detail. A few, such as the SBD, P-38, F4U and F6F are quite acceptable, though far from spectacular, but I have no intention of buying any more until FM really makes a decision to put out a top quality product---even if this means higher prices. At this point, I am buying selected C1 and HM 1:48s, with the latter's Spitfire XIV ( Lacey ), being my latest acquisition.

With the current prices many of these are going for on ebay I'd think they'd be prime targets for repaints? If you're into that sort of thing............

Re: How many Collection Armour's you got?

Talking about repaints......is it easy to remove the placards?
I'm thinking of turning a Doolittle B-25 into a RAF 320 (dutch) sqn mitchell. The color is right as it is, so it should be an easy conversion.
