Re: Opinions on Graf 190 and the Ju-52?

Wait for your Ju 52, Black 6. Hold off for the right model. When it comes down to it, you'll long forget the $40.00 you saved if the scheme isn't what you prefer. Yes, Aeoeng's looks classy, as does the civil and other versions. But the model that's on sale doesn't seem to say "buy me" to you. Chances are, you'll only get one 1/48 Ju 52, so maybe you should wait for the best?

My 2 cents for a buddy.

Excellent advice Ara1 - if the livery/markings of a particular model don't 'speak' to you, don't buy it, as you'll never be quite satisfied and eventually it will depart your hangar ...

Re: Opinions on Graf 190 and the Ju-52?

Sage advice my friends. Thanks Ara and Cardo, that makes a lot of sense. Sometimes you cannot resist a bargain, but in this case it might be the better thing to do. If I got one in 1:48 it will probably be the only one I get. For that reason I want something that is the most representative of the type, the most iconic version possible.

Thanks again guys.

Thumbs up Re: Opinions on Graf 190 and the Ju-52?

Hi, New to the Model Hangar and my first post. I collect mostly 1:48 scale models and there are only a few companies that manufacture this scale. I'm only a collector and I do have some issues with FM FW-190s. Most of the others that posted concerns with the FM FW-190 are the some of the same concerns that I have with this model. I've decided that these are just models for the collector to look at and enjoy. If I had the $$$$ I would own the real deal and would be concerned with the authenticity of every aspect of the plane. We have to understand that these are just models to some and toys to others. There are other Franklin Mint models that I have larger concerns with such as the landing gear on the P-51D Mustangs. The Ju-52 is very large and my wife was home when I received on the same day 2 of these Ju-52s from my eBay purchases. Let me say it wasn't a pretty site on the home front for a couple of days. They are BIG and beauteous! I happen to like the Ju-52 "Crete Campaign" and the Auxiliary Bomber "Austria Campaign". Bob

Hi Bob! Thank you for weighing in on this thread and welcome to the forum. You are not alone among us married die cast nuts to have suffered the sudden frost that sometimes comes with a model delivery (though 2 Ju-52s at once may have pushed it a bit). There have been some great comments made and that has helped me make my decision to go after one of the Ju-52s, and in the Aux. bomber configuration. Now I need a sale to appear!

Thanks again!

Re: Opinions on Graf 190 and the Ju-52?

Aunti Ju is arriving for Christmas!

The following are questions a wife may ask about the Franklin Mint Ju 52 (and suggested responses to same):

Are you buying another plane?
  • No, I am engaging in another precious metal investment.
Is this plane big?
  • Nah. It takes up as much space as the pair of boots you just bought.
How much did this plane cost?
  • The real question is, how much could it have cost? It could have cost us $150. But you've taught me to work a great deal, and I have.
Does it have to be tied to war?
  • The Ju 52 was designed in peaceful times as a civil transport. Honey, this plane pioneered civil aviation.
Isn't it army green?
  • Forest green. Forests are good.
Is this your last plane?
  • Was that your last pair of boots?
I'm not comfortable with war things in the living room.
  • Is comfort typically the decision maker with items of importance? Or does style come first? Model planes are about construction, not destruction. Now let's cut the lights, make some popcorn and settle down to enjoying life. Sound good?

Hey,

If those boots take up the same amount of space as a FM JU-52, I sure hope she isn't wearing them when she kicks your....well, you know what I mean.

Would this kind of fall under Zen and the art of diecast collecting?
