Help sorting FW-190 versions

Hello,

TFM doesn't list anything about versions regarding their FW-190s. Can someone tell me how well or how poorly FM has represented version nuances? Thanks for your help.

Re: Help sorting FW-190 versions

More than you ever wanted to know about the FW-190A, F, and G. I don't know of a similar guide for the Fw-190D/Ta-152.

As far as FM's line of Fw-190 are concerned, if you're not a 'stickler' for details or a 'rivet counter' for accuracy, then those are a decent representation of the butcherbird. I'd
rather wait for Carousel 1 or Hobby Master to spit out one of these.

Re: Help sorting FW-190 versions

This is what I have been using for quite a few years for detailed Fw 190A/F information. The Aero Detail series is pretty neat in that breaks down the plane into sections and provides some great close up shots, which really help for kit detail. Book also breaks down the aircraft variants and how they differed from each other. It has both English and Japanese text, which at times can be a bit of a pain, but probably one of the better references sources I have come across.

Picture of my very much used copy.

Re: Help sorting FW-190 versions

The information on FW-190 reference materials is greatly appreciated.

Can anyone tell me what versions of the FW-190 TFM has put out to date? Has TFM done what they've done with other diecast and simply repainted the same casting without altering details to reflect version changes?

I think, but that don't quote me on that, the Fw-190 TFM is an 'Anton 8' series. I only have one Corgi Fw-190 A8, but I can surely vouch that my MATCHBOX is a "Friederich 8" variant as well as the FM/Armour's Focke Wulfe line. You could immediately tell the differences between the A8 and F8 series by looking at the prominent MG cover 'bulge' on the front windshield area of the F8 variant.
Here's a couple more inexpensive coffee table books I highly recommend to you:

I have a extra brand-new copy of this great book for sale. PM if interested. $15.00 plus postage.

Re: Help sorting FW-190 versions

Until you brought up this subject I never really took a close look at the FM Fw 190s. I took a look at the pictures that are posted on the Flying Mule site for a closer look. After a close look at the pictures on the site, well to be honest I was not too impressed. For starters the rudder is a bit off, if it is supposed to be an Fw 190A 4 or latter model there should be a radio aerial attachment mast, but none on this model (At least none in the pictures.). If it were of an Fw 190A-3 or earlier the rudder would still be wrong as far as shape goes. As far as nailing down a specific model I would have to try and base it on the upper nose gun armament layout. Since upper armament maintenance access hatch is not the more pronounced version you would see with MG 131 armament would tend to think there model is roughly base on an FW 190A-6 or earlier variant (Also consistent with Fw 190F-3 and earlier variants). Pictures of models on site have two small blisters on top of upper armament maintenance access hatch which would be consistent with earlier MG 17 nose armament. It may be my imagination, but the profile of the cowling appears to be a little of also. These observations just based on pictures, but Flying Mule does do a good job as far as posting a good coverage of the models they sell.

I'm giving this one to my oldest son for Christmas. I think it looks pretty cool.
