Armour F4-Phantom - What Scale Is This?

I believe this is either a 1:100 or 1:72 scale. Can someone please confirm? Here is a pic to help size it...

Also, I was thinking of starting a collection of 1:72 airplanes. What scale is recommended for the best detail and is readily available in all aircraft, particularly warbirds and jets.

Thank you in advance!
Nick

Re: Armour F4-Phantom - What Scale Is This?

That looks to be the 1:100 scale Phantom ...A 1:72nd scale Phantom would have a 10.5" Length and 6.25 Width.
I like the 1:72 scale for the modern day birds myself. I also have a 1:72nd collection of WWII bombers.
1:72 seems to be the scale most collectors like best..
To be honest i like to collect a little of everything 1:144 , 1:72 , 1:48 , 1:32 and 1:18

Also welcome to The Model Hangar.

I'm a supporter of 1:72nd. Good detail and not too much space so you can have more planes!
though 1/200 diecast are pretty well detailed too, but pretty pricy

Re: Armour F4-Phantom - What Scale Is This?

Thanks for the replies and the welcome!

I have an R/C plane (T-28 North American Trojan) that I would like to get a smaller model of. I've searched around online but can't seem to find it, although I did find a 1:72nd model that appears to be a plastic build. I also found a 1:48 scale T-34 Mentor model which looks nice! Does anyone know where I might be able to find a 1:72nd or 1:48 of the T-28?

Here is a pic of my R/C T-28...

Re: Armour F4-Phantom - What Scale Is This?

On your original picture, it is the Armour F-4E Phantom Mig Killer, tail 68-0493 "SJ", 34 TFS, Korat RTAFB, Armour #ART5042, and is 1:100 scale. And like a lot of those planes, you have to put them on the stand "backwards" or they look like they are in a nose dive. There is another thread on 1:100 Armour planes, with lots of good pictures. They are all pretty old releases, except one new one that came out this year, "F-4E USAF Mig Killer, 34 TFS - 388 TFW, Capt Richard Coe, "JJ" tail", Armour #ME11E275.

I collect a little of everything too, mostly based on the subject, not just the scale. 1:72 seems to be a good balance of subjects, price and size. As the size increases, the quality (and price) generally go up. The 1:72 is just a little bigger than 1:100, but seems to be a lot nicer.

Here is a comparison of 1:48, 1:72, 1:100, 1:144. Still waiting on a 1:18 to add.

Welcome!

Re: Armour F4-Phantom - What Scale Is This?

Then there's the simple fact that NO-ONE has yet to release an F-4E in 1/72, despite the fact that it's the most common variant. I have a ton of Phantoms, but none with a chin vulcan, dammit! Or for that matter, a gun in a belly pod!

I understand that Hobby Master is coming up with an E in 1/72... Eventually. But why no one has managed to do on in this more popular scale is beyond me...

No one has really released an F-4anything in 1/72nd scale yet.

Hopefully that's about to change next year!
