Armour F-86 Sabre Opinions

I have the "Jolly Roger" and I think it is very good - although I am no expert on the accuracy of this aircraft. The horizontal stabilizers do seem to have way too much dihedral though. Did anyone else notice this?

Yes, my Joe McConnell "Beautious Butch" Sabre is the same way, though easily fixed by carefully "bending" it down. Also, the red fuel dump pipe was "cocked" in the wrong direction.

Hi lanslide; In answer to your question (directly above), they're Metal !!!!!!!!!

My (Beautiful) F.86 in RAF Camouflage is next to me now

Gotta say, that the tailplane dihedral (on mine) is certainly more than the Silver F.86 picture that Aeroeng posted from the 'Mule' site

I wanted to buy another at the same time I bought this (the shop in Romford had a stack of 'em & they were knocking them out for £20 as opposed to the £47 normal retail )

However, despite going thru a stack of 8 or 9 the National-markings all looked "boss-eyed" on ALL the others, so I declined.

A Beautiful plane in a beautiful colour scheme (it's got 'Azure-Blue' underneath the Dark Grey-Green camouflage).

No, I think the dihedral is only slightly too much. Just look at pictures of the real thing.

To me, it's certainly less noticeable than the insufficent tailplane anhedral on their F-4s.

Question Re: Btw...

Anybody interested in a pristine CAC Sabre MK32 ?...

planenutsfrog - The correct dihedral ("up" angle) for the horizontal tail surfaces F-86 Sabre series of fighters is 10 degrees - same as on most Boeing products, along with a wing sweep of 35 degrees - the dihedral for the tail should be pretty easy to measure. Yes, I might be interested in a CAC Mk32. Which one - Black Panther or Black Diamond? I've already got one of each, but inspite of the RAAF "Kangaroo" roundel posiitioning on the wings, and the incorrect "vertically-elongated" shape of the nose air intake (Armour used the standard F-86-type air intake shape rather than the correct one which is more of a vertically, slightly-flattened "oval" shape), they're still a pretty good model. Send me a message (JBY53@harbornet.com) or whatever & let me know the "rock-bottom" price you'd be willing to accept (incl shipping to 98407 - Tacoma, WA) for it & if it's a "price I can't refuse", I'll take it off your hands. - JY

Hornchurch - Better look again, closely - They're actually plastic. All of my Armour F-86's as well as my SpecCast Sabres utilize plastic horizontal tail surfaces. Only on many of the bigger models (such as the B-17's, B-24's, etc; etc do they tend to be metal. Perhaps you've got one or two in which metal ones were used, but I've not seen them & with the exception of the Japanese (Armour) JASDF F-86F-40 (which has VERY incorrect wings for that model), I've got every Sabre Armour put out (to date) and ALL of them use plastic tail surfaces, with the exception of the vertical surface & rudder, of course. They're painted to match the rest of the plane & look very much like the rest of the plane as far as material used is concerned, but if you strip off the paint (I've customized a few in years past), you'll find that they're actually plastic. - JY
