CDC Armour Collection Decals

When Armour first introduced their first two 1/48 scale models (the P-51D Mustang and the F-4 Phantom) back in 1998, I didn't hesitate to buy them. They were the first fairly accurate diecast models in that scale and there was nothing to compare them to. I was extremely happy with them even though they relied completely on decals for all of their markings. I bought at least one example of every model mold they made. But when Armour was bought out by The Franklin Mint, the line was improved by the use of pad printed markings. Are ALL of the markings pad printed or are some still decals now? I wish I could have waited for this vast improvement when I started collecting. Not only do the decals look like - well - decals, but they are sure to flake off over time. I wish I could afford to re-create my Armour collection with the newer releases! Anyone else feel this way?

Re: CDC Armour Collection Decals

Its the problem not only there but also especially for me with my Corgi B 17 Bombers NON, BOL and Memphis Belle. These are also decals and i'm very unhappy with that fact. Can we get replacement if a decal fade or peels?

That's right! My Corgi "The Dragon And His Tail" B-24 Liberator (as well as others) have this decal issue too. I don't think they have improved that one yet so I don't feel too bad about that example...but my Armour collection is another story.

Re: CDC Armour Collection Decals

My opinion is that no, FM will not be re-issuing retired models with pad printed versions. It would be costly and entirely too customer-oriented, the latter not exactly what they're known for.

The decaled versions I own look great and I don't expect they'll peel. Silvering is a slight issue, as is decal sheen, but I am pleased with the versions I have.

Re: CDC Armour Collection Decals

So...FM never re-issued a previous CDC version (that had decals) with an updated version (of the same exact model) with pad printed replacement markings? I know that some of the old CDC versions are not retired yet (like Boyington's Corsair). Have they been improved or are they still currently produced with decals?

Re: CDC Armour Collection Decals

I have the original CDC Robbin Olds F-4 (bought when it first came out), and it's all decals, but very well applied. I do believe that the FM version of same is pad-printed, but please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I also have an original CDC VF-111 F-4 with decals, but because these are applied to gloss paint, they actually look just fine.

I do have problems with some decal silvering on my Royal Navy Phantom FG-1. I do wish they would re-issue that one with pad printing (and the correct intakes would be nice too, but that might be too much work).
