Re: Pic's F4F-4 Wildcat USS Ranger

I'm flabbergasted myself, Ara1! That Wildcat is looking very nice indeed. Decisions....decisions...which one to get - - this one or Carousel's Wildcat, hmmmmm.....

Btw, thanks for the gorgeous pics Phantom Phan!

Hell, I've settled my dilemma....Just ordered this puppy from Wings & Wheels!!!

I'll check out W&W for diecasts, thanks for the idea.

For me, I'd either wait till FM comes out with a General Motors version, (dark blue all over, ca 1944) or buy the C1 prewar F4F-3 w/ yellow wings etc. That looks nice.

Re: Pic's F4F-4 Wildcat USS Ranger

Ara1, I haven't completely scrubbed-off getting the C1 Pre-war F4F-3 Wildcat flown by Charles "Windy" SHIELDS, Silver Star (5 Victories) VF·41 "Red Rippers" USS Ranger (CV 4) Guantanamo Bay January 1941 just yet, and this bird would make a good companion to this FM Wildcat squadron history-wise since it came from the same unit that served on-board the USS Ranger...http://themodelhangar.com/forum/show...18&postcount=1

When the C1 Wildcat get's marked down I'll be all over that in a heartbeat!

Re: Pic's F4F-4 Wildcat USS Ranger

Thanks for the feedback on the pic's.
FM did a great job on this model, looks like they are starting to catch with brands like C1 & EI in the 1/48 arena.

This is one of their all new molds for 07 under the new management.
I hope the team that did this one will continue to do more molds in the future.
I would also be nice to see this team go back & redo some of FM's older molds such as the Corsair & Mustang.

BTW there is more cockpit detail than I could get in the pics due to the light.
There is a fulll range of flight controls both in the front of the cockpit & on the sides.

Tailwheel looks quite toyish compared to Carousel's (below courtesy The Flying Mule)......Looks like another ERTL sub-assembly....Other than that it's pretty nice looking.

Re: Pic's F4F-4 Wildcat USS Ranger

No exposed screwheads and only 1 screw mount! The underside looks quite nice and relatively detailed. I didn't notice the toyish tail wheel until Skunky pointed it out. The panel lines look deep and a bit wide.

Phantom Phan... are the belly windows painted or clear plastic? Its a bit hard to tell. Also, I can't quite figure out the wing guns: they don't look recessed, or painted, rather, slightly molded into the leading edges? How would you describe the wing guns? Can you give us a close up picture of them?

Always the party-pooper...

I've got this thing for over-looking what's good and focusing instead on every little imperfection....I think I must have picked it up from my wife......

I hope we'll get this scheme from FM.
