Re: Rare Franklin Mint Spitfire Mk1

The stands were similar, but different. I have the Fm Shoo Shoo Baby.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Do you know if the model makers for FM at the time were the same craftsmen who are now employed by Eagle International? The stands maybe of different sizes but it sure looks similar in design style. Intrigueing....

That is a good question.

Re: Rare Franklin Mint Spitfire Mk1

Thanks for the clarification AA. Nice display, by the way. What's the story behind those medals?

Thanks, I also have the Old Crow Signature Edition sitting next to the EI P-51D.
There is no big story behind the medals. I simply wanted to have something to "spice" up the display. So I bought them on the bay...

Armour Addict your FM PRF Spitfire looks waaaaay better than that sad looking 'rare' example on the 'bay. I agree with Old Crow, nice display there

Thanks again!

The only problem is that its missing the antenna on the spine. Funny thing is: This model has an retractable Landing Gear, Engine Detail with removable cover, and Sliding Canopy with brass Cockpit Detail. I wonder why FM didn't keep up that level of detail?

The stands were similar, but different. I have the Fm Shoo Shoo Baby.

Hm, interesting! Ain't that the 1:96 scale B-17G released around 1993?

Re: Rare Franklin Mint Spitfire Mk1

You guessed it right. Shoo Shoo Baby is 1/96 scale. It is a very nice looking model that was doen in the early 90's.

Re: Rare Franklin Mint Spitfire Mk1

That spitfire would be a nice one to have if it looked like Armour Addict's spit.

Yes, it is pretty nice!

I found an older pic of the model when it was displayed on my desk.

Enjoy!

This happens to be the first diecast I acquired in the "modern" era. I saw it advertised in "Air & Space" magazine way back in 1994, or thereabouts, and snapped it up for about $40. I also bought the P-51D and B-17 and all three of these now sit proudly in display cases surrounded by hordes of Corgis, Dragons, Wittys, Geminis, IXO's , Hobby Masters, and many other makes.

I was leafing through some old collection of Aviation Heritage magazine last weekend and 'lo-n-behold' stumbled on an ad from FM for the Spitfire and 1/96 B-17 diecasts. It was asking for "3 payments of $39.95" each! A $40 value would indeed be a 'steal' for that! Lucky you!

Do you have some additional info on the P-51D? A pic would be fine, too!

Thanks for the info!

I always wondered how much it was.

Would it be possible for you to post a scan of the ad?

Cheers,
