Re: Collection Armour - What do you expect for 2008?

Does anyone recall the exact quote from a Midway Island commander who said "It is my opinion that anyone ordered into combat flying the F2A should be considered lost in action..." It was scathing.

The Warbird's Forum site has a Annals of the Brewster Buffalo section that has some great information regarding the Buffalos service with the United States, Finland, British Commonwealth, Dutch and sefction on the ones captured by the Japanese.

Site: The Warbird's Forum: AVG Flying Tigers, Brewster Buffaloes, Flying Wings, Japan at War, Vietnam, and other military history stuff

Found the quote you had asked about. Quote was by a Captain P.R. White and is as follows, "It is my belief that any commander that orders pilots out for combat in an F2A-3 should consider the pilot as lost before leaving the ground." Yep, that would definitely be considered a scathing quote on the Buffalo.

Thanks CC. Midway is a favorite battle to study; even the debut of the TBF was tough. I can never learn enough about what our guys went through. Can you imagine the anticipation the Marines felt in the hour before the air attacks, when they knew it was coming, along with a probable invasion... and they had spent the past month working their tails off to get the islands fortified? Incredible. And they held.

Makes you wonder what the folks defending Wake went through.

Re: Collection Armour - What do you expect for 2008?

Hi all,
Have been sitting on the sidelines for a little while and thought I´d pipe in.
I for one would love to see a Ju 88 or a BF110 wasp or shark mouth (or both) for next years Collection Armour. Does anyone have any knowledge of other manufacturer´s plans (Corgi or HM possibly as they have molds) to do either aircraft in a 1/48?

Cheers

Welcome to the forum arnarnc! Both of the Ju 88 and the Bf 110 would look pretty neat in 1/48th scale. Have not heard any rumors of either of these slotted for this scale, but it would be pretty neat though.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

A fair argument could be made that, until FM comes out with a Ju-88 and a Bf-110, they won't have a fair representation of German WW II aircraft. These two aforementioned planes had so many variations & such that they could play their endless repaint game ad infinitum.
