Re: Give me your thoughts on the F4U Corsair

I have Boyington's and Kepford's Corsairs. Until another company produces an F4U-1A in 1/48, we are stuck with this inaccurate thing. But thank God we at least have something close to representing one of my favorite WWII fighters! I hope Eagles International and/or Carousel 1 eventually make this and the earlier F4U-1 "birdcage" model so I can finally retire these old birds to my son's toy chest.

Ara1 - thanks! Is yours a Fw 190D-9 or a Ta 152?

Re: Give me your thoughts on the F4U Corsair

Hey FlyXwire,

I've always been interested in this version of FM's F4U:

It looks real nice in the photos; however I value the opinions here and am hesitant to act on it.

Like Pappy, I own Spec Cast F4Us, I do think they look great, but the lack of underwing detail keeps it off the top shelf, so to speak.

Re: Give me your thoughts on the F4U Corsair

I think that FM's F4U-5's (like this one) are more accurate than their F4U-1A's. They must have based all their versions on the F4U-4 by just changing a few parts like the cowling and prop. I think this one looks pretty good. Where and how much?

Smile Re: Give me your thoughts on the F4U Corsair

I'm a Korean Era Veteran, [I served in Germany, not Korea], so it was natural that the first two Armour C.D.C. models I bought would be reflective of that war. The P-51 was the first 1:48 I owned, followed immediately by the F4U-4, VMA 323. That's a long time ago, probably 12 years, and all of my 26 1:48s are now safely stored in the basement. I remember that I was very impressed with both models at the time and I was off and running. Like many of the contributors to this site I eventually shifted to 1:72, space limitations being the deciding factor. However, because of the thread, I'm going to set up a photo location in the basement and shoot the entire collection. Beats lugging them upstairs. As noted, it's been awhile since I looked at any of the 1:48s, so I can't really comment of fit, finish, profile, etc. But,I like what I have.

Re: Give me your thoughts on the F4U Corsair

I'm a sucker for Korean War era Corsairs and I am really tempted to obtain this one in particular, but I'm too reluctant to pull the trigger! Maybe if Hobby Master ....wink-wink.. will do one
next year....
